Actor Ozan Güven has described the impact of his trial on his family, during which he was sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in prison for the charge of "intentional injury" for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Deniz Bulutsuz. Güven stated that his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2021, following the incident that began in 2020, and suggested that the process he went through deeply affected his mother and may have played a role in the progression of her illness.
Actor Ozan Güven spoke again about the legal process that began after the incident he had with his ex-girlfriend Deniz Bulutsuz in 2020 and lasted for years. Güven stated that the case, which ended with a prison sentence of 2 years and 3 months, also deeply affected his mother, and suggested that his mother's Alzheimer's disease may have been influenced by this process.
COURT PROCESS LASTING YEARS
Following the incident between Ozan Güven and Deniz Bulutsuz on June 13, 2020, both parties filed complaints against each other. While Bulutsuz stated that Güven physically assaulted her, Güven denied the accusations, claiming that he was also injured.
After the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a case was filed against Güven for intentional injury, insult, and deprivation of liberty. Upon Güven's complaint, a case was also seen against Bulutsuz for simple injury.
RECEIVED A PRISON SENTENCE OF 2 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS
After a trial lasting approximately 5 years, the Istanbul 58th Criminal Court of First Instance delivered its verdict in June 2025.
The court sentenced Ozan Güven to 2 years and 3 months in prison for intentional injury. Güven was acquitted of the charges of insult and deprivation of liberty. Deniz Bulutsuz was also acquitted in the simple injury case filed against her.
In the court's reasoned decision, the lamp said to have been used by Güven to hit Bulutsuz was considered a "weapon." It was also assessed that Güven's defense was aimed at escaping the crime and punishment.
After the parties' objections, the file was taken to the appellate court. The 20th Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Appeal, in October 2025, found the local court's decision lawful and rejected the objections. Thus, the 2 years and 3 months prison sentence against Güven became final.
"MY MOTHER COULD NOT DIGEST THE FEELING THAT I WAS WRONGED"
Güven talked about the impact of the case on his family this time on the program "Biz Bize" broadcast on A Para.
The actor, who announced that his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2021, said that his mother knew him very well and had difficulty accepting the process.
Güven, arguing that his mother's illness might be linked to the trauma he experienced, said, "My mother could not digest the feeling that I was wronged. She could not comprehend the court result, and it progressed."
"MAYBE SHE GOT ALZHEIMER'S TO FORGET THESE"
Stating that his mother's illness has progressed, Güven made a striking connection between the process he went through and his mother's Alzheimer's disease.
Güven said, "Maybe she got Alzheimer's to forget what I went through."
The actor also added that the human brain is very complex and it is not possible to say anything definitive about the cause of the disease.
