Özgür Özel had said, "We will mess with his forehead": The CHP member mentioned in the Newborn gang has resigned.

Turkey was horrified by the scandals of the 'Newborn Gang', which caused the deaths of 10 babies and endangered the lives of newborns for money. As a result of the investigation conducted by the Organized Crimes and Terror Crimes Investigation Office of the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that 47 suspects, including 22 who were arrested, had prepared an indictment for causing the deaths of baby emergency patients by transferring them to the newborn units of private hospitals they had previously agreed upon, in collaboration with individuals working at the 112 Emergency Call Center in Istanbul, and that they had gained unjust profits. Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu, who made a statement regarding the gang that caused a great public outcry, said, "The first tip came in March 2023. A secret operation was carried out at the level of the Ministries of Interior, Justice, and Health." The licenses of the hospitals that the gang had agreements with were revoked, and their doors were sealed.

One of those whose name was associated with the 'Newborn Gang' was CHP Beylikdüzü Council Member Ahmet Atilla Yılmaz. In the indictment prepared against Yılmaz, who is also the Chairman of the Health and Infectious Diseases Commission of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, it was stated that "Ahmet Atilla, the chief physician of Beylikdüzü Medilife, was aware of the irregular writing of epicrisis, irregular patient transfers, and irregular step-up." Speaking at the Education Summit organized by his party in Ankara today, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel said, "Let me say the last word from the beginning. If there is even one member of the Republican People's Party involved in this, not even 10 kilometers away, the one who keeps them in the party is dishonorable and untrustworthy. We are that clear on this issue. When you look at this issue from the perspective of politics, you divide society. Half will join you, half will oppose you. You cannot fight these monsters. They found one CHP member in the big gang, to cover their responsibility and throw it on us. They found one DEM member, one CHP member. We will take responsibility for that CHP member," he said.

RESIGNED

According to a report by ODA TV, Yılmaz announced today that he has resigned from the party. Yılmaz stated:

"As a father of four daughters and a physician with 34 years of experience, I am deeply saddened that my name is mentioned in this grave incident. I will do everything in my power to ensure that the truth comes to light as soon as possible and that justice is served. Although I have not been accused of negligent behavior, intentional manslaughter, or membership for the purpose of committing a crime, I want to express that my sadness is great. My release after my statement was taken and not being detained has increased my belief that justice will be served and the truth will come out. I have complete confidence in the supreme Turkish justice. To avoid politicizing the process and not to harm the institutional identity of the Republican People's Party to which I belong, I am resigning from my party."
