According to the regulation published in the Official Gazette, the Ministry of Health will not allow planned cesarean deliveries in private hospitals without a medical justification.
The Ministry of Health has updated the "Regulation on Private Health Institutions Providing Outpatient Diagnosis and Treatment" as part of the "Healthy Turkey Century" program, implementing a series of regulations. The decision regarding "cesarean births," which has been a topic of discussion recently, is also included in the new regulations.
NO PERMISSION FOR PLANNED CESAREAN
According to the regulation published in the Official Gazette, planned cesarean births will no longer be performed in private medical centers without a medical justification. Medical centers wishing to perform normal births are required to establish a delivery unit. However, centers without an operating room will not be allowed to have a delivery unit.
The entrances and exits of the delivery unit will be designed to be controllable and located in a position that is easily accessible from the operating room, away from general circulation. The delivery room will be at least 16 square meters. All records related to births will be kept electronically and integrated into a central notification system. Centers with 10 or more specialist doctors will be allowed to establish a surgical intervention unit.
PUBLISHED IN THE OFFICIAL GAZETTE
The relevant article published in the Official Gazette dated April 19 is as follows: "If a normal birth is desired to be performed in the medical center, it is mandatory to add a delivery unit to the institution within the criteria specified in Annex-4/C. Establishing a delivery unit is not permitted in medical centers without an operating room. Planned cesarean cannot be performed in the medical center."
SIVASPOR'S BANNER AND ERDOĞAN'S REACTION
Last week, Sivasspor, which opened a banner saying 'The natural one is normal birth' while going out for the match, was criticized by some groups and became a topic of discussion. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in a statement he made yesterday regarding the issue, said, "There was no disrespect to anyone. There was no situation that would offend women as they claim. Why does our ministry's encouragement of normal birth disturb you so much?"
