In Aksaray, when seeing the police checkpoint, an intoxicated driver pulled his pickup truck to the side and pretended it had broken down, but police officers foiled his trick. The driver, who had previously been caught drunk twice and had his license revoked as a result, took out his anger on journalists when caught drunk for the third time. After showering insults and threats, the driver was fined 295,438 lira and taken into custody.
Teams from the Provincial Police Department's Traffic Enforcement and Public Order branches, who were conducting a checkpoint on Aşık Molla Street in the Hacılar Harmanı neighborhood of Aksaray, noticed a vehicle pulling over to the right before reaching the checkpoint at midnight.
POLICE FOILED THE "MY CAR BROKE DOWN" ACT
Police officers who quickly approached the parked pickup truck saw the driver fiddling with the engine part under the driver's seat. When the 27-year-old driver, Recep Tayyip S., who claimed his vehicle had broken down, was asked for his license and alcohol test, the driver's breakdown act was foiled.
Police teams, who determined that the pickup truck had no malfunction, asked the driver for his license and wanted to conduct an alcohol test. However, the individual refused to provide identification and blow into the breathalyzer. In the incident that had police sweating bullets, the driver finally gave his ID and blew into the breathalyzer after lengthy efforts.
HE CURSED AT AND THREATENED JOURNALISTS
During the investigation, it was determined that the driver had previously been caught driving under the influence of alcohol twice, and as a result, his license had been permanently revoked.
The driver, who tested at 1.39 promil alcohol, more than 6 times the legal limit of 0.20 promil for pickup trucks, took out his anger on the journalists filming at the scene.
HE WAS BOTH DETAINED AND FINED 295,438 LIRAS
The driver, who, along with his friend beside him, directed curses and threats at a journalist, was taken into custody and brought to the police station to give his statement.
The individual was fined a total of 295,438 liras for 'driving under the influence of alcohol and without a license', 'driving an uninspected vehicle', and various other charges. The pickup truck was handed over to a relative who arrived at the scene.
