Social media influencer Sydney Towle, who had been battling a rare and extremely aggressive bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma) for about three years, passed away at the age of 26 due to complications related to her illness.
The young influencer, who had been placed in palliative care earlier this week due to cancer spreading to different parts of her body, had her tragic news announced by her family via social media. Her brother Austin Towle and her mother, in a video message they recorded, stated that Sydney passed away peacefully.
EMOTIONAL FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM HER FAMILY
In a message they published, her family expressed pride in the great determination Sydney showed, saying: "Drawing attention to rare cancer types and raising awareness about people's health was her biggest goal. We will always honor her memory and continue to keep her legacy alive."
Following the news of her death, the young influencer's millions of followers filled her social media accounts with condolence messages.
SHE REFUSED TO STOP TREATMENT
The New York-based influencer, who had over 1 million followers on TikTok and more than 200,000 on Instagram, always shared her intense chemotherapy processes and her fight against the disease with her followers. Towle, who announced in May that the cancer had spread to the peritoneal lining, had refused doctors' recommendation to stop treatment and transition to end-of-life care, deciding to continue the fight until the very last moment.
SHE MADE THE SCARS ON HER BODY A SYMBOL OF STRENGTH
Towie, who drew attention with her commitment to life and cheerful posts despite her serious illness, saw her surgical scars as a symbol of resilience rather than hiding them. Last year, the young figure fulfilled one of her biggest dreams by walking the runway at a swimsuit fashion show as part of Miami Swim Week, continuing to inspire her followers with the words: "Dreams only end when you give up."
