The life of 38-year-old Kris Bennett, who came to Antalya from England for a holiday, was turned upside down by suddenly starting headaches. When the pains, which he initially attributed to hot weather and stress, became unbearable, the father of three, a young man, applied to a hospital in his country and was diagnosed with stage 4 brain tumor. Bennett, who underwent surgery and chemotherapy and was given 12 to 18 months to live by doctors, continues his fight for life without losing hope for his newborn daughter and family.
Kris Bennett, a 38-year-old who came to Antalya, one of Turkey's favorite tourism centers, to spend a holiday from England, saw his vacation turn into a nightmare due to severe headaches he experienced. After applying to the hospital, tests revealed that Bennett was diagnosed with stage 4 brain tumor.
HEADACHE BEGAN ON HOLIDAY
According to the Daily Mail, Kris Bennett, who lives in England, came to Antalya in July last year to go on holiday with his family. During his holiday, Bennett began experiencing increasingly severe headaches, which he initially attributed to hot weather, stress, and an ear infection.
STAGE 4 BRAIN TUMOR DIAGNOSED
After returning home, he applied to the hospital as the pain became unbearable. Following an MRI and detailed examinations, doctors diagnosed Bennett with stage 4 brain tumor of an aggressive type known as glioblastoma.
HAD SURGERY, STARTED CHEMOTHERAPY
After the diagnosis, Bennett was urgently operated on, and part of the tumor in his brain was removed. Following the operation, the 38-year-old man began chemotherapy treatment, and doctors informed him that due to the advanced stage of the disease, he had an average life expectancy of 12 months.
Shocked by what he experienced, the young man said, "It was the biggest shock of my life. I was told the disease was incurable and I had 12 to 18 months to live."
KEEPS HIS HOPE
Kris Bennett said he has not lost hope despite the difficult process he is going through. Bennett, who described the greatest joy in his life as his daughter Sienna, who was born during this period, said, "I love telling this story. Sienna had already been born when we were making all these decisions. She is the greatest blessing I have ever had. With her blue eyes and blonde hair, she is almost a copy of me."
The couple is also raising their two sons, 6-year-old Toby and 2-year-old Riley, along with Sienna. Bennett, who will undergo chemotherapy until December, stated that doctors will then evaluate options for a new surgery, clinical trials, or different treatments, saying, "My mind won't let me give up the fight. We have heard stories of people with the same tumor who lived much longer than expected. As long as there is an option, we will continue to fight."
FAMILY LAUNCHED SUPPORT CAMPAIGN
For Bennett, whose life changed overnight, his family and loved ones launched a donation campaign to cover treatment costs. The campaign called for support to help the young man access the best possible treatment.
