Police intervened with university students who gathered in front of a shopping mall in Şişli to walk to Maçka Park in Istanbul. As a result of the ensuing scuffle, many students were detained.
Protests that began following the detention and arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu as part of investigations against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality continue across the country.
EXTENSIVE SECURITY MEASURES IN FRONT OF CEVAHIR MALL
Students from various universities in Istanbul called for gathering in front of Cevahir Mall in Şişli to walk to Maçka Park. Following the call, the police took extensive security measures around the mall, nearby metro stations, and the square.
WARNING TO STUDENTS TO "UNCOVER THEIR FACES"
The police warned students with covered faces trying to exit from the metro station in front of the mall to "uncover their faces" and disperse.
MANY PEOPLE DETAINED
After the warnings were ignored, the police intervened with the students. As a result of the ensuing scuffle, many people were detained.
