Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz praised the outcomes of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan.
According to Saudi Arabia's Al-Ekhbariya channel, King Salman chaired a Cabinet meeting held in the city of Jeddah in the west of the country. The meeting discussed various topics as well as regional and international developments.
King Salman thanked Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their work on the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement.
"WILL CONTRIBUTE TO EFFORTS TO PRESERVE STABILITY"
Praising the outcomes achieved at the trilateral summit, King Salman stated that the summit strengthened the foundations of a long-term defense partnership between Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Pakistan. King Salman expressed that this partnership would contribute to enhancing cooperation, coordination, and integration among the three countries, as well as to efforts to combat regional threats and preserve international security and stability.
In its final communiqué issued after the meeting, the Saudi Cabinet stated that the "Mecca Summit" revealed the depth of the deep-rooted historical relations among the three countries. The statement noted that the summit affirmed the will to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and Islamic solidarity and to protect common strategic interests.
MECCA JOINT DEFENSE AGREEMENT
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the "Joint Defense Agreement" in Mecca on August 7.
The agreement constitutes defense-oriented cooperation aimed at strengthening commitments to preserving regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity, based on burden-sharing and a common security understanding, and not targeting any country.
Aiming to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, the agreement stipulates that any armed attack against any of the three states will be considered an attack against all of them.
The agreement has the nature of a defense-oriented arrangement that aims to develop defense industry cooperation and military interoperability, along with the commitment of the three countries to support each other's security.
