Following the announcement of the discount and price stabilization campaign by the Agricultural Credit Cooperatives Markets, news of discounts has also come from the Istanbul Association of Food and Necessities Retailers. The association announced that it will stabilize prices on thousands of products, along with discounts of up to 25%, across nearly 2,700 branches.
The President of the Istanbul Food and Necessities Retailers Association (Istanbul PERDER), Faruk Güzeldere, announced that they will stabilize prices for thousands of products, primarily basic food items, in member markets throughout the month of Ramadan, and that discounts of up to 25% will be applied on some products.
RED MEAT PRICE STABILIZED
Faruk Güzeldere stated in a written statement that they have stabilized red meat prices from January until the end of Ramadan within the framework of the protocol they signed with the Meat and Milk Institution (ESK), noting that they are delivering meat to all households at economical prices.
"WE WILL APPLY DISCOUNTS OF UP TO 25%"
Güzeldere explained that they are implementing similar practices for other products to further increase the abundance for households, using the following expressions:
"In member markets, we will stabilize prices for thousands of products, especially basic food items, throughout the month of Ramadan, and we will apply discounts of up to 25% on some products. With 66 member markets, nearly 2,700 branches, and approximately 43,000 employees in Istanbul, we can reach all households in the megacity with our discounts and price stabilizations. You will be able to see our campaign in the branches of our chain markets across Istanbul. With the full support of local chain markets, we will carry out special campaigns on many products throughout the month of Ramadan and bring the abundance of Ramadan to the tables. We will continue to stand united with all our members in the fight against inflation."
"WE WILL PROTECT CITIZENS AGAINST EXPLOITATION"
Faruk Güzeldere stated that they will protect consumers against exorbitant price increases based on exploitation throughout the month of Ramadan, making the following evaluations:
"From legumes to pasta, from soup groups to flour, from liquid oils to canned goods, from tomato pastes to sauce groups, from baking ingredients to durable dairy products, from delicatessen to dates, from soft drinks to snacks, from tea to coffee varieties, from cleaning products to personal care items, from baby diapers to detergents, and to hundreds of categories, we have stabilized prices for thousands of products until the end of Ramadan. Our consumers should not see the campaigns as temporary and strain their budgets in a way that disrupts the supply-demand balance. Since we do not have stock issues with the products we have stabilized prices for, they can comfortably spread their shopping over the days. Our campaigns will continue every day, and they will be able to see the prices of discounted products on the shelves every day."
KAYSERI WILL ALSO APPLY DISCOUNTS ON BASIC FOOD PRODUCTS
Ömer Gülsoy, the President of Kayseri Chamber of Commerce, stated that prices will not be increased and discounts will be applied to ensure that citizens can access basic food products at reasonable prices during Ramadan.
President Gülsoy announced that there will be no price increases for food products in Kayseri during Ramadan, stating, "The Sultan of 11 months, the month of Ramadan, begins on March 1, Saturday. As the Kayseri Chamber of Commerce, our aim is to ensure that our citizens can access basic food products at more reasonable prices during Ramadan, to prevent exploitation, and to strengthen the spirit of solidarity, unity, and togetherness in our city. Recently, we held a large consultation meeting with the participation of representatives from livestock, meat and meat products, food, agriculture, fruit and vegetable trade, local market chains, and the retail sector. With the decision we made together with both our producers and representatives of the retail sector, hundreds of products will be on campaign and discounted in our local and chain markets throughout the month of Ramadan. Our slogan is 'No price increases during Ramadan, plenty of abundance.'
Our local and chain markets will apply significant discounts on basic food products throughout the month of Ramadan. I believe that the business community in Kayseri will fulfill its responsibilities during this process," he said.
Gülsoy expressed that they will continue to work to ensure price stability and protect the purchasing power of the public, stating, "Our Red Meat Producers Union, our Kayseri PERDER members, our local markets, and our local producers will make sacrifices. They will sell their products to our people at the most reasonable prices. Discounts will be applied to hundreds of products. We have already started to announce this to the public with posters hung in our local markets. I invite our consumers and sector representatives to act consciously. We will also take a clear stance against exploitation together. We absolutely do not want any stain on the name of our city. We want to benefit from the strength of sector representatives, not our government. I would like to thank the sector representatives who will make discounts alongside our citizens and their employees in advance. I wish everyone a blessed Ramadan filled with feelings of cooperation, solidarity, unity, and togetherness. May God grant us the ability to fast with joy and health. We are always by the side of our state and our nation. The best inspector is a conscious consumer. They will definitely know the suitable product and the suitable price," he said.
PRESIDENTS SHOWED SUPPORT
YUM-BİR President İbrahim Afyon, Red Meat Producers Union President Ercan Aras, Kayseri Retailers Association President Mehmet Buçukoğlu, and Bakers' Association President Mustafa Aslan, who attended the press conference, also stated that they would support the campaign.
RAMADAN BREAD 30 LIRA
On the other hand, Bakers' Association President Mustafa Aslan announced the price of the Ramadan bread that will be sold in the city during the meeting. Aslan said, "We will continue to sell the 360-gram double bread at 18 TL this Ramadan without changing the price from 6-7 months ago. Our egg bread is 30 TL, our sesame bread is 25 TL. Our regular bread is 18 TL. The federation announced that the price for 250 grams is 20 TL across Turkey, but we will offer the 360-gram bread to our people at 18 TL to support the campaign," he said.
