Nine soldiers lost their lives and twenty were injured when a military vehicle fell into a 100-meter ravine in Colombia's Narino region. The Army Commander and the President expressed their condolences regarding the accident and announced that an investigation has been initiated.
ROLLED INTO A 100-METER RAVINE
The military vehicle rolled into a 100-meter ravine in the La Columpia area of the town of Barbacoas, which is part of the Narino administrative region. In the accident, nine soldiers lost their lives, and twenty were injured.
ARMY COMMANDER THANKED CIVIL DEFENSE
Army Commander General Luis Emilio Cardozo Santamaria stated in his announcement that he thanked civil defense for their support and assistance, and reported that an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the accident.
PRESIDENT OFFERED CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILIES OF THE SOLDIERS
Colombian President Gustavo Petro also expressed his condolences to the families of the soldiers who lost their lives in the accident via his social media account. Petro stated, "Sons of the homeland and the Colombian people lost their lives in a traffic accident. It is a very tragic accident. I extend my condolences to all families. If you are entrusting your children to a President, an institution, and a state, we must also make greater efforts to ensure their safe return home. I am very sorry for the accident that occurred."
