Eighteen-year-old violinist Laçin Akyol, who was injured after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Mersin, has passed away in the hospital where he was receiving treatment. Akyol, who placed third in the International Grumiaux Young Violinists Competition, had received a gifted violin from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
18-year-old violinist Laçin Akyol, who was receiving music education in Switzerland, returned to her family in Mersin last month after breaking her leg while skiing. Akyol was injured after being hit by a car while crossing the road on Adnan Menderes Boulevard on January 25.
YOUNG VIOLINIST DIES IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
The young violinist was taken to Mersin University Medical Faculty Hospital. Despite all the efforts of the doctors, Laçin Akyol passed away last night while being treated in intensive care. It was learned that Laçin Akyol, the daughter of Mersin State Opera and Ballet (MDOB) artists Mahmut and Övül Akyol, will be buried tomorrow at Çiftlikköy Cemetery.
PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN HAD GIFTED A VIOLIN
The young violinist, who performed in many concerts of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and MDOB, had placed third in the International Grumiaux Young Violinists Competition held in 2015. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had sent a gifted violin to Akyol. The violin sent by President Erdoğan was given to Laçin Akyol by the then Governor of Mersin, Özdemir Çakacak.
