In Mardin, Melek Akarmut, known as the 'Mardin Marilyn Monroe,' filed a lawsuit against A.E. on the grounds of alleged harassment. A.E., on the other hand, claimed that his personal data was violated due to images shared by Akarmut on social media. Following A.E.'s complaint, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated legal proceedings against Melek Akarmut, seeking a prison sentence of 2.5 to 6 years and 4 months for crimes committed against honor.
The incident occurred on April 2nd on Mardin 1st Avenue. Melek Akarmut, a mother of four and grandmother of two, known for her resemblance to American actress and model Marilyn Monroe, moved from Afyonkarahisar to Mardin nine years ago. In Mardin, Akarmut opened a 6 square meter shop to sell soap and cologne for the purpose of generating income for street animals. Allegedly, while Akarmut was broadcasting live on social media from her shop, a man named A.E. entered the store. Akarmut informed A.E. that she was selling soap and cologne when he expressed a desire to get information about the products. At that moment, A.E. said he wanted to look at the tattoo of 'Marilyn Monroe's face' located below Akarmut's right knee. Akarmut asked A.E. if he was a tattoo artist. A.E. replied that he was not a tattoo artist but was curious about the tattoo, and he reached his hand towards Akarmut's knee. Pulling her leg back, Akarmut said, "Don't touch me. Who are you to touch me, what audacity?" A.E. responded, "I was just going to touch the tattoo. You didn't say not to touch." A.E. left the shop upon Akarmut's warning. Those moments were recorded by the shop's camera. Akarmut went to the police and filed a complaint against A.E. for harassment.
IT WAS DECIDED THAT NO PROSECUTION WAS NECESSARY The Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed its investigation. A.E. was questioned. In his statement, A.E. said he went to the shop to buy cologne, and when he saw Melek Akarmut's tattoo, he asked for permission to touch it, but after receiving a negative response, he learned the prices of the colognes and left the shop. The prosecutor's office, having completed the investigation, decided that there was no evidence that the suspect acted with the intent of sexual harassment, and therefore, there was not enough suspicion to warrant the opening of a public case, concluding that no prosecution was necessary.
PRISON SENTENCE REQUESTED FROM 2.5 TO 6 YEARS Following this, A.E. also filed a complaint against Melek Akarmut, accusing her of 'sharing personal data' during the incident when she was broadcasting live on social media and sharing images from the shop. A.E.'s lawyer stated that due to Akarmut's resemblance to the American actress, his client was surprised and wanted to ask for permission to touch the tattoo on his leg, but after being reacted to, he left the shop. A.E.'s lawyer claimed that Akarmut shared those moments on her social media account with the title 'Perverted Harasser' and the note 'They should collect these instead of the dogs and take them to the shelter, and also put a tag on them,' which publicly humiliated his client; that it violated his client's honor, dignity, and reputation, and that the video was unlawfully disseminated, causing his client to face negative situations. Akarmut also went to the police station to give a statement. The Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office opened a case against Melek Akarmut for 'crimes against honor' with a request for imprisonment ranging from 2.5 years to 6 years and 4 months.
