With the arrival of summer, the nightmare has returned. Forest fires have erupted in many parts of Turkey one after another. While the teams continue to intervene in the fires, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı explained the current situation.

YUMAKLI: THERE ARE 3 FOREST FIRES THAT POSE A RISK

Minister Yumaklı stated: "A total of 113 large-scale fires have occurred in our country. Only 6 of them remain. There are 3 fires that pose a risk. The most significant of these is the one on the Sakarya-Bilecik border. The intensity and unpredictable winds hindered our efforts to achieve effective results. 16 aircraft are intervening in the fire.

"3 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DETAINED"

In addition, all institutions, AFAD, and local governments are working hand in hand. A total of 13 villages have been evacuated. There are no affected citizens among our residents. Those who have no place to go are being assisted using public resources. We cannot currently assess the extent of the affected areas. We will share this with the public later. The largest fire here occurred 30 years ago. 3 people have been detained.

As we intensified our efforts, we received news from Bolu Göynük. 9 helicopters are intervening here. A major incident had previously occurred here.

THE FIRE CONTINUES IN MANISA AKHİSAR

The other fire that poses a risk is the Manisa Akhisar fire. The outbreak time was 11:25, and the first intervention was at 11:35. 3 aircraft, 11 helicopters, and 26 water tankers are intervening here. Since the beginning of the week, our friends have been fighting many fires in İzmir. Despite their fatigue, they continue their work. We will remain on alert until October 15, 2025. I wish all the best to our friends who are fighting in all our provinces."

FIGHT AGAINST FLAMES CONTINUES IN SAKARYA

In the Taraklı district of Sakarya, a forest fire that started yesterday and spread to the Bilecik border due to the wind is being intervened by 700 personnel, 200 vehicles, 10 fire trucks belonging to Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, and 20 personnel, along with 11 firefighting helicopters. The area turned to ash by the flames was captured from the air.

TEAMS CONTINUE THEIR FIGHT

Intensive intervention was initiated from the ground and air from the first moment of the fire. Teams worked tirelessly throughout the night; with the first light of dawn, air vehicles were also reactivated. The decrease in wind in the region slowed the spread of the flames; however, the dense smoke reduced visibility, which sometimes complicates intervention efforts. Active firefighting against flames is still ongoing in the area. Authorities stated that efforts are being made continuously to bring the fire under control, and as of this hour, 700 personnel, 200 vehicles, 10 fire trucks belonging to Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, and 20 personnel, along with 11 firefighting helicopters, are on duty in the area. The areas turned to ash and where smoke is rising were also captured by drones.

A LARGE NUMBER OF SETTLEMENTS HAVE BEEN EVACUATED

"367 CITIZENS HAVE BEEN EVACUATED TO SAFE AREAS"

Bilecik Governor Faik Oktay Sözer, while closely monitoring the process since the fire started, stated that a crisis center has been established in the region, saying, "A total of 367 citizens have been evacuated to safe areas in 7 villages and 10 connected settlements, along with 762 small livestock and 709 large livestock. The evacuated citizens are waiting in safe areas away from their homes."

WIND NEGATIVELY AFFECTS THE EFFORTS

Sözer later stated in a live broadcast on CNN TÜRK: "The effect of the wind is impacting the firefighting efforts. We are relocating our citizens in the villages to safe places. The wind is disrupting our efforts. Our work continues diligently. We hope for a 40% chance of rain tomorrow. Our efforts are ongoing."

ALMOST THE ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD HAS BURNED

The fire has affected 9 villages in Bilecik's Gölpazarı district, and a 'Crisis Center' has been established in the region. In the Urgancılar neighborhood of Tongurlar village, 10 citizens, 14 small livestock, and 39 large livestock have been evacuated. In a neighborhood consisting of 17 houses, 13 houses were completely burned, and 1 sheep and 50 chickens perished. The villagers stated that they experienced a great disaster related to the fire, indicating that the fire grew due to the effect of the wind.
