25 TEACHERS DETAINED BY THE POLICE

The education vigil initiated by the members of the Private Sector Teachers Union in the National Sovereignty Park next to the Parliament, demanding a guaranteed base salary for teachers, is on its 38th day. Today, 25 of the teachers who protested the Teacher Profession and National Education Academy Law draft in front of the Ministry of National Education were detained by the police.

"WE NEED A LAW, NOT PROMISES"

The teachers, stating that they will hold a sit-in protest in front of the Ministry of National Education during the period when the Teacher Profession Law draft is discussed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, said in their statement, "When we met with employer associations, they expressed that they demand equality in terms of cost and that they do not completely reject the implementation of a base salary. We have conveyed a proposal that expresses the equality of cost in the public sector for the opening of the process to the ministry again. At this point, no changes have been made to the Teacher Profession Law, the Private Teacher Law No. 5580, or the regulation. From today onwards, the Teacher Profession Law is in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey's National Education Commission. As the Private Sector Teachers Union, we are starting a sit-in protest in front of the Ministry of National Education with an approach that says 'we need a law, not promises' in order to protect and enhance the dignity of the teaching profession while the Teacher Profession Law is being discussed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey."
