The German automotive giant Volkswagen is preparing to end the production of the petrol and diesel versions of the 50-year-old Polo. The company will launch a new era in the small car segment with the electric ID.Polo, which complies with strict emission regulations in Europe.
Volkswagen is preparing to close the gasoline and diesel era in its nearly 50-year Polo series. The ID.Polo, which the brand will introduce in 2026, will be the first model of a new fully electric era in the small class.
"INTERNAL COMBUSTION MODELS ARE NOT ECONOMICAL"
Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer stated in an interview with Auto Motor und Sport that producing affordable internal combustion models has become uneconomical due to the tightening emission regulations of the European Union.
Schäfer noted that developing a new gasoline Polo would increase costs and could make the vehicle inaccessible.
TO BE LAUNCHED IN SPRING
The ID.Polo is expected to be launched in spring 2026 and positioned as the brand's electric entry model with a starting price of around 25,000 Euros.
