The content of the minutes shared with the public regarding the meeting of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission with the terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan did not satisfy the DEM Party. In a written statement from the DEM Party, which called for transparency in the process, it was stated, "The incomplete and subjective interpretation of the content of the meeting carries the risk of narrowing and questioning Öcalan's historical role in this process." On the other hand, the DEM Party made two requests regarding the process.
DEM Party made a statement regarding the summary of the minutes from the 19th meeting of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, which included the Imralı meeting. The statement expressed that the content of the meeting between the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, and the commission delegation was conveyed in a fragmented, incomplete, and subjective manner.

In the statement signed by DEM Party Commission Members Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Meral Danış Beştaş, Hakkı Saruhan Oluç, Celal Fırat, and Cengiz Çiçek, the following expressions were included: "The 19th meeting of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission was held with the agendas of 'Presentation of Views on the Joint Report' and 'Transfer of the November 24 Imralı Visit.'
In the context of discussions regarding the November 24 Imralı visit, we feel the need to share our approach with the esteemed public once again. As a party that has argued from the beginning that this process should be conducted around the principles of transparency and inclusiveness, we believe that the content of the meeting held with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan on behalf of the Parliamentary Commission in Imralı should also be shared with the public in a faithful, comprehensive, and objective manner.
"TRANSPARENCY WILL STRENGTHEN THE LEGITIMACY OF THE PROCESS"
The most critical issue to avoid in resolving such a historically significant matter is the instrumentalization of 'secrecy' and 'transparency' as opposing poles through political calculations. Transparency is the essential principle that strengthens the legitimacy of the process and societal ownership.
"DISCUSSION OF NARROWING ÖCALAN'S HISTORICAL ROLE MAY ARISE"
The fragmented, incomplete, and subjective presentation of the content of Öcalan's meeting with the commission delegation, who is the main actor of the Peace and Democratic Society Process, carries the risk of narrowing and questioning Öcalan's historical role in this process. This contradicts the fundamental approaches, definitions made, and responsibilities undertaken in a process that has been ongoing for over a year.
"DESPITE ALL OUR INSISTENCE, A SUMMARY TEXT WAS SHARED"
As a party, we also demanded that all of the Imralı minutes be shared with the public as they are. However, despite all our insistence, the Parliamentary Presidency preferred to present a summarized text based on indirect narration to both the commission and the public instead of sharing the complete minutes. Our member of the delegation going to the island did not contribute to the preparation of this summary text.
This method not only fails to ensure a healthy and comprehensive understanding of Mr. Öcalan's evaluations; it also opens the door to numerous speculations through disconnected sentences, selective emphases, and incomplete quotations. We reject any approach that is detached from the overall context, open to subjective interpretations, and conducive to fueling discussions.
THEY HAVE 2 DEMANDS
What is essential for us is the use of a honest, consistent, and responsible language towards all parties in the process and society. We advocate for Mr. Öcalan's words to be made visible as they are, without being subordinated to anyone's political position or turned into material for any intra-party reckoning.
For this reason:
* We reiterate our demand for the complete sharing of the minutes with the commission members,
* And then for the establishment of a transparent mechanism that will ensure the correct information of the public. The Peace and Democratic Society Process is too serious and historical to be left to personal interpretations, narrow political calculations, and polemics conducted through sentences taken out of context. We will continue to insist on an objective, transparent, and comprehensive transmission that is in line with the essence, spirit, and societal expectations of the process.
