THE AZIZ IHSAN AKTAŞ CASE CONTINUES
The seventh hearing of the case, in which 200 defendants, including 7 mayors who were suspended from duty, is being tried as part of the Aziz İhsan Aktaş organized crime investigation, was held. In the hearing held in the hall opposite the Marmara Closed Prison by the Istanbul 1st Heavy Criminal Court, 33 detained defendants and their lawyers were present.
Some of the non-detained defendants, including Aziz İhsan Aktaş, as well as CHP executives, party members, and relatives of the defendants also attended the hearing. The hearing, which was closely monitored by a large number of press members, was held under strict security measures taken by gendarmerie personnel in the hall and its surroundings. After the defenses of the detained defendants were taken, the public prosecutor presented his opinion regarding the detention status of the said defendants.
REQUEST FOR RELEASE FOR 3 PEOPLE
The prosecutor expressed his opinion that a decision should be made for the release of İbrahim Halil Çalış, the Deputy Mayor of Esenyurt, İbrahim Koçyiğit, the Purchasing Chief of the Avcılar Municipality Support Services Directorate, and Oktay Aktaş, the financial member of the ISFALT Tender Commission, when the reports in the file, the defenses of the defendants, the time spent in detention, and the scope of the file were evaluated together.
The public prosecutor requested that the detention of the other 30 detained defendants be continued, considering the current evidence situation, the existence of evidence indicating strong suspicion of crime, and the entire file being evaluated together.
ZEYDAN KARALAR AND 9 PEOPLE RELEASED
The court panel decided to release Zeydan Karalar, the Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality, who was suspended from duty after his arrest, along with Ali Fırat Baycan, Cem Alper Akyüz, İbrahim Koçyiğit, İbrahim Halil Çalış, Mehmet Ataş, Mert Çelik, Müzeyyen Karakaş, and Oktay Aktaş.
The panel ruled for the continued detention of the other 24 defendants. The hearing was adjourned to Monday, February 9.
