The Radio and Television Supreme Council imposed sanctions on productions and programs found to encourage violence or exceed the boundaries of criticism during its inspections of content broadcast on television channels and digital platforms. As a result of the reviews, administrative fines and decisions to remove from the catalog were issued for some TV series and films, while two television channels were also penalized due to broadcast violations.
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed sanctions on TV series and digital platform content due to broadcast violations; some channels were also penalized for expressions exceeding the boundaries of criticism.
THE EFFECT OF VIOLENT SERIES ON CHILDREN AND YOUTH
According to the statement from RTÜK, the Supreme Council convened to evaluate current broadcast violations. Particularly, the effects of productions containing violent content on children and youth were scrutinized.
PENALTY FOR PROMOTING VIOLENCE TO THE SERIES "YERALTI"
The Supreme Council examined scenes from various episodes of the series "Yeralti" broadcast on NOW TV and determined that violence was presented as a method of resolution and aestheticized. On this basis, it was stated that the law's provision "cannot be encouraging of violence" was violated, and an administrative fine was imposed.
HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FOR "ESREF RUYA"
623 complaints were submitted to RTÜK regarding the series "Esref Ruya" broadcast on Kanal D. In the reviews, it was assessed that the violent scenes in the series were normalized and had an encouraging nature, resulting in an administrative fine for the channel.
HEAVY SANCTIONS ON DIGITAL PLATFORMS
RTÜK also audited not only TV channels but also digital platform content. Due to violent content, various platforms faced both fines and the sanction of removal from the catalog.
"ALTIN COCUK" REMOVED FROM CATALOG ON HBO MAX
On HBO Max, the series "Altin Cocuk" was deemed to contain intense violence and could normalize it, leading to a fine for the platform and removal of the content from the catalog.
PENALTY FOR "GANGS OF LAGOS" ON PRIME VIDEO
It was determined that violent scenes in the film "Gangs of Lagos" on Prime Video were presented as a method for solving problems, resulting in an administrative fine and removal from the catalog for the platform.
INTERVENTION ON NETFLIX FOR SCHOOL ATTACK SERIES
The platform was penalized due to the intense violent scenes and school attack content in the series "Trigger" on Netflix. It was emphasized that such content could have negative effects on young viewers.
PENALTY FOR HALK TV ON GROUNDS OF "INSULT"
In a program broadcast on Halk TV, statements directed at the Minister of National Education were assessed as exceeding the boundaries of criticism, resulting in an administrative fine for the channel.
BROADCAST VIOLATION DECISION FOR SOZCU TV
It was stated that expressions used in a program on Sozcu TV exceeded the boundaries of criticism and were of a degrading nature, leading to sanctions against the channel.
NEW PRINCIPLE DECISION FOR BROADCAST BANS
RTÜK also decided to determine new principle decisions regarding the implementation of broadcast bans issued by courts, in coordination with the Ministry of Justice.
