Russia reacted to the decisions taken against Moscow due to the alleged discovery of an explosive-laden UAV at Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany. The Russian Foreign Ministry rejected the accusations and summoned Germany's Charge d'Affaires in Moscow, Bernd Finke, to the ministry. The statement said that Berlin resorted to a provocation aimed at undermining bilateral relations and that Germany's steps would be met with a "harsh response."
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it will take action against Germany's decisions regarding the discovery of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at Leipzig-Halle Airport.
"A STRONG RESPONSE WILL BE GIVEN"
In a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, it was recalled that Germany had taken certain measures against Russia on the grounds that an explosive-laden UAV was found at Leipzig-Halle Airport.
The statement noted that Germany's Charge d'Affaires in Moscow, Bernd Finke, was summoned to the ministry for this reason, and it was stated that the Russian side rejected the accusations directed against it.
Emphasizing that Berlin has taken a step towards the complete destruction of bilateral relations, the statement said, "Berlin has deliberately resorted to a provocation aimed at escalating the situation in Russia-Germany relations. The actions of the German government will be met with a strong response."
WHAT HAPPENED?
On August 4, a UAV assessed to contain an explosive device was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany.
US intelligence had claimed that the characteristics of the explosive-laden UAV found were "specific" to Russian military intelligence.
Yesterday, the German government stated that the findings obtained in the investigation into the incident pointed to Russia's responsibility and announced a series of measures.
Under the decision, Russia's Consulate General in Bonn will be closed as of September 18, the contract regarding the Russian House in Berlin will be terminated, entry controls for Russian citizens will be tightened, and pressure on Russia's so-called shadow fleet will be increased.
