The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the United States' decision to develop a new missile defense system will increase tensions rather than reduce them. The ministry spokesperson expressed that this step aims to militarize space and anticipates the strengthening of nuclear arsenals.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Washington's recent decisions regarding the development of a new missile defense system would not help reduce tensions with Moscow.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday for the development of a new missile defense system for the country. The Iron Dome missile defense shield is expected to provide protection against ballistic, hypersonic, advanced cruise missiles, and other aerial attacks.

STRONG REACTION FROM RUSSIA TO THE U.S.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a weekly press conference that this initiative fundamentally reveals the U.S.'s intention to pursue the militarization of space and that the decision means a significant increase in the U.S. nuclear arsenal. Zakharova stated, "The decision foresees a substantial strengthening of the U.S. nuclear arsenal and implies the conduct of military operations in space, including the development and deployment of space-based intervention systems."

The spokesperson added, "We see this as further evidence of the U.S.'s focus on turning space into a theater of armed conflict." Zakharova warned that this initiative could also undermine any potential dialogue regarding strategic offensive weapons, noting that this measure is the first sign of Washington's plans to destabilize the development of military and technical programs.
