At least 15 people were killed and many were injured in missile and drone attacks launched by Russia on Ukraine's capital Kyiv and its surroundings during the night. The attacks caused heavy damage to apartment buildings and civilian residential areas, with some buildings collapsing and fires breaking out. While search and rescue teams continue working to reach those trapped under the rubble, there are concerns the death toll may rise.
Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine's capital Kyiv and its surroundings during the night. Local authorities said at least 15 people were killed and dozens were injured in the attacks.
Following the attacks, explosions occurred in many areas, and numerous residences, warehouses, and civilian buildings were heavily damaged. Firefighters responded to fires that broke out in some locations.
SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS CONTINUE UNDER THE RUBBLE
Ukrainian officials reported that search and rescue operations are ongoing in the rubble of collapsed buildings and that there are concerns the death toll may rise. Rescue teams worked through the night to reach those trapped under the debris.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko stated that teams rescued many people alive from the rubble, but some individuals are in serious condition.
RUSSIA: THE TARGETS WERE LOGISTICS POINTS
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that the attacks targeted military logistics and supply points. Ukrainian officials, however, stated that most of the struck areas were civilian residential zones and that apartment buildings and commercial structures were damaged.
ATTACKS CONTINUE MUTUALLY
In recent days, Russia and Ukraine have intensified mutual missile and drone attacks. During the same period, Ukraine reportedly conducted drone operations against some industrial and logistics points inside Russia, while Russia targeted several Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv.
