In Ukraine's drone attacks on Russia's Black Sea regions of Sochi and Adler, a fire broke out at an oil facility. Large fires and explosions were also seen in the area where S-300 or S-400 air defense systems are deployed, and the systems designed to shoot down drones became the target of drones this time. It has not yet been independently confirmed that the air defense system was directly hit.
Sochi and its surroundings on Russia's Black Sea coast were shaken by Ukrainian drone attacks on the night of September 4th. A drone alert was declared in the Sochi, Adler, and Sirius areas, with successive explosions heard throughout the night.
Russian authorities stated that after the attack by Ukrainian drones, drone debris was found at various points and windows of some buildings were damaged. According to initial assessments, the attacks caused no loss of life or injuries.
UKRAINIAN DRONES TARGETED OIL FACILITY
One of the targets of Ukraine's attack was the oil infrastructure in the region. Russian authorities confirmed that a fire broke out in the area where an oil storage facility in Sochi is located.
According to local sources, the facility targeted by Ukrainian drones is located in the Adler region. In images shared on social media following the attack, large flames were seen illuminating the night, and thick smoke was visible from miles away.
S-300 OR S-400 POSITION ALSO TARGETED
One of the most notable points in the attacks carried out by Ukraine throughout the night was the Sirius region. According to location analysis of open-source images, a large fire broke out following the attack near the Psou River on the Abkhazia border, in the area where Russia's S-300 or S-400 air defense systems were deployed.
Ukrainian sources claimed that a Russian S-400 air defense system was hit by Ukrainian drones and even destroyed. Images shared from the region also showed secondary explosions occurring after the attack.
However, it has not yet been independently confirmed that the S-300 or S-400 system received a direct hit and was destroyed. Russian authorities also did not provide detailed statements regarding the extent of possible damage at the air defense position.

One of the details that makes Ukraine's attack noteworthy is that the targeted region hosts Russian air defense systems.
Russian air defense systems, developed to detect and neutralize drones and other aerial threats, this time became among the targets of Ukraine's drone operation.
The S-400 is known as one of Russia's most advanced long-range air defense systems. If it is confirmed that the S-400 in Sirius was directly hit by Ukrainian drones, the attack will go down as a significant development in Kyiv's operations against Russian air defense infrastructure.
UKRAINE STRIKES DEEP INTO RUSSIA WITH DRONES
The attacks in Sochi and Adler occurred during a period when Ukraine has recently increased its drone operations deep into Russian territory.
According to data from Russian authorities, more than 43,300 Ukrainian drones were intercepted over Russia and Crimea in the June-August 2026 period alone. Oil refineries, storage facilities, military points, and airports were also among the targets of Ukraine's operations.
