KYIV TARGETED THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT
The Russian army launched a large-scale air attack on Ukraine's capital Kyiv in the early hours of Tuesday. Ukrainian officials stated that numerous residential and commercial buildings were damaged in the attacks involving missiles and kamikaze drones.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the attack as a "massive enemy assault."
APARTMENT COLLAPSED, PEOPLE TRAPPED UNDER RUBBLE
Part of a multi-story apartment building in Kyiv's Podilskyi district collapsed in the attacks. Officials said there may be people trapped under the rubble and announced that search and rescue efforts are ongoing. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, stated that according to initial assessments, there are people stranded under the debris.
AT LEAST 9 DEAD, NEARLY 100 WOUNDED
According to information provided by Ukrainian officials, 4 people were killed in Kyiv and 5 in the city of Dnipro during the attacks. The number of wounded across the country reached approximately 100. It was reported that among the wounded in Kyiv, there are 3 children.
RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS, CLINIC, AND KINDERGARTEN DAMAGED
During the attacks, a fire broke out in a 24-story apartment building in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district. In the Podil district, flames rose from a 9-story building hit by missile fragments. A health clinic in the city was damaged, and missile fragments were reported to have fallen into the yard of a kindergarten.
In the city of Bucha near Kyiv, homes, warehouses, and various structures were also damaged.
ZELENSKY HAD PREVIOUSLY WARNED
Hours before the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement that they had intelligence indicating Russia was preparing a large-scale assault. Zelensky said, "Intelligence warnings about Russian attacks continue. A large-scale attack is possible. They have prepared for it."
OIL FACILITIES ESCALATED TENSIONS
The attacks drew attention as they occurred during a period when Ukraine has increased operations against Russia's oil infrastructure in recent months. Zelensky claimed that the Ukrainian army hit 15 Russian oil refineries in the first five months of the year and disabled approximately 40% of Russia's oil processing capacity.
NEW TENSIONS IN THE WAR
Last week, Russia announced it had launched "systematic attacks" on military targets in Kyiv. The Russian Foreign Ministry also called on foreign citizens and diplomatic mission staff to leave Kyiv as soon as possible.
