Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, one of the 27 names not included in the extraordinary congress declaration signed by 111 MPs in CHP, explained the reason for his decision. Salıcı reminded that he is not against the congress, and even previously argued that the congress should be convened as soon as possible. However, he stated that he did not find the content of the joint declaration appropriate and did not sign because no changes could be made to the text.
Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, who was among the 27 names that did not sign the joint declaration calling for an extraordinary party congress on July 12 with 111 MPs in the CHP, broke his silence. Salıcı stated that he is not against the congress but did not sign because he found the content of the text inappropriate.
CALL FOR CONGRESS IN THE CHP
Political activity continues in the CHP following the court's decision of "absolute nullity." In the process that began with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's return to office, 111 MPs, including Özgür Özel, published a joint declaration calling for an extraordinary congress to be held on July 12, 2026.
In the declaration, the MPs emphasized that the only authority to decide on the party's direction and management is the delegates, arguing that the CHP should go to a congress as soon as possible.
27 MPs DID NOT SIGN
Of the 138 MPs in the CHP group, 111 signed the declaration, while 27 MPs did not support the joint text.
Among those who did not sign were notable names such as Faik Öztrak, İlhan Kesici, Gamze Akkuş İlgezdi, Enis Berberoğlu, and Oğuz Kaan Salıcı. Salıcı's presence on the list, especially given his previous statements about the congress, became a point of curiosity in party circles.
HE HAD PREVIOUSLY CALLED FOR A CONGRESS
In a statement following the absolute nullity decision, Oğuz Kaan Salıcı had argued that the extraordinary congress should be convened as soon as possible. In his post, Salıcı said, "It is essential that our congress, which members of the Republican People's Party see as a festival of democracy, be convened as soon as possible." Therefore, the absence of his signature on the joint declaration calling for a congress drew attention.
"I AM NOT AGAINST THE CONGRESS"
According to information reported by A Haber correspondent İlter Yeşiltaş, Salıcı explained why he did not sign the declaration in response to questions directed at him. It was stated that Salıcı said he is not against convening the congress but found the content of the text inappropriate.
"THE CONTENT OF THE TEXT DID NOT SUIT ME"
According to Yeşiltaş's live broadcast, Salıcı used the following statements: "I have no problem with convening the congress. The content of the text did not suit me. This is a pre-prepared text. When I found out later, it was not possible to change the content. That's why I didn't sign. When I was contacted, it was said that 110 people had signed."
Salıcı's explanation also preempted interpretations that all MPs who did not sign the declaration are against the congress.
DISCUSSIONS WITHIN THE PARTY CONTINUE
As debates over the extraordinary congress continue in the CHP, the reasons of those who did not sign the joint declaration remain a matter of curiosity. Salıcı's statement strengthened assessments that some MPs are not opposed to the idea of a congress but are distant from the content of the declaration.
