MURDERS AT MULTIPLE ADDRESSES
Police teams in Muscatine, Iowa, went to a house on Park Avenue on Monday afternoon following a report. Four bodies shot dead were found at the scene.
Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies identified the attacker as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland. McFarland, who fled after the initial attack, was later spotted near a pedestrian bridge in the Riverfront Trail area.
COMMITTED SUICIDE WHILE SPEAKING WITH POLICE
It was reported that McFarland, surrounded by police teams, shot himself while speaking with security forces, ending his life.
Expanding the investigation after the incident, teams obtained information that there might be victims at other addresses.
BODIES FOUND AT TWO MORE LOCATIONS
Police found the body of a man shot dead in a house on Mill Street. Additionally, it was determined that another person had died at a different address on Grandview Avenue.
Thus, the number of fatalities in the attack rose to 6.
ALL VICTIMS ARE FAMILY MEMBERS
Police Chief Kies said initial findings indicate the incident is a family tragedy. It is assessed that all six deceased are family members of the attacker Ryan Willis McFarland.
STATEMENT FROM THE SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Muscatine School District also announced that two of the victims were school employees and two were currently enrolled students.
The statement said, "We are deeply saddened by this tragic event that has shaken our community."
INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Muscatine Police Department, with support from the Muscatine Fire Department, Muscatine County Sheriff's Office, Iowa State Police, and the Iowa Criminal Investigation Unit.
