Ukraine carried out its largest drone attack of the year on Moscow, the capital of Russia. In the attack, which involved over 190 drones, the Moscow Oil Refinery, the giant Sadovod shopping center, and some residential buildings were hit, while black smoke covered the city. Flights at four major airports in the capital were completely suspended. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating, "This is a completely fair response to Russian attacks on our cities and settlements."
Ukraine has reportedly launched an intense drone attack on Moscow, the capital of Russia.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated on his social media account that over 190 Ukrainian drones were shot down by air defense systems over Moscow.
Sobyanin noted that necessary operations are being carried out where drone debris fell, and air defense systems continue to operate.
Sobyanin also stated that damage occurred due to the attacks in the area of Sadovod shopping center, one of Moscow's largest markets, adding, "There are no injuries, and emergency services are continuing their work at the debris site."
MOSCOW OIL REFINERY HIT BY DRONES
In an earlier statement, Sobyanin reported that despite Russian air defense systems continuing to repel attacks on Moscow, several drones managed to reach the Moscow Oil Refinery, and all measures have been taken to mitigate the negative effects following the incident.
As a result of the attacks, some sections of Moscow's ring road have been closed, and drivers are being advised to use alternative routes.
It is reported that the Ukrainian drone attacks are among the most intense on Moscow and its surroundings this year.
Authorities reported that some homes in the Moscow region were also damaged in the drone attacks, and precautionary measures have been taken.
Thick smoke was seen covering the city near the Moscow Oil Refinery and Sadovod shopping center, and the fire at the refinery continues.
Images of drones hitting some residential buildings in Moscow and the fire at the refinery were also shared on social media.
FLIGHTS SUSPENDED AT MOSCOW AIRPORTS
In a statement from the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya), it was reported that Moscow's Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports have temporarily stopped accepting and sending flights.
The statement noted that civil aviation activities in the Moscow region are under special control, and the restrictions are implemented to ensure flight safety.
The statement also reported that additional personnel have been assigned at airports to support passengers, terminal services have switched to an enhanced work schedule, and the situation in the terminals remains calm.
In another statement from Russia's largest airline, Aeroflot, it was announced that if a flight is canceled, passengers should not come to the airport, and ticket refund or change procedures should be carried out remotely via Aeroflot's website or mobile application.
ZELENSKYY CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR ATTACKS
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated in a post on his social media account that they continue their attacks on targets in Russia.
Zelenskyy reported that they carried out long-range attacks on the Moscow region again tonight.
Noting that the oil refinery in Moscow was attacked for the second time in the past week, Zelenskyy also stated that they attacked targets in Russia's Rostov region.
Zelenskyy stated that they also carried out attacks on targets belonging to the Russian army in the regions occupied by Russia in Ukraine, sharing the view that "This is a completely fair response to Russian attacks on our cities and settlements."
Thanking the commanders of Ukraine's missile and unmanned systems, Zelenskyy said, "All our allies have appreciated the accuracy and effectiveness of our medium and long-range attacks these days. It is time to end this war, and Russia must take the necessary steps regarding diplomacy."
Zelenskyy also shared an image allegedly from the attacks they carried out.
