Former AK Party MP Şamil Tayyar made a notable statement following the annulment of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's university diploma. Tayyar said, "Amendments to Article 101 of the Constitution could perhaps be a solution. The higher education requirement and the limit of being elected president twice could be removed."

The Istanbul University announced to the public that it has canceled the diploma of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. In the statement made by the university, it was noted that a total of 28 diplomas were canceled.

ATTENTION-GRABBING COMMENT FROM ŞAMİL TAYYAR

While there were numerous reactions to the decision, a notable statement came from former AK Party MP Şamil Tayyar.

Stating that it is a personal suggestion, Tayyar said that the tension arising from changes to Article 101 of the Constitution could be resolved. Tayyar expressed, "Changes to Article 101 of the Constitution may be a solution. The higher education requirement and the limit of being elected President twice could be lifted."

"ARTICLE 101 CAN BE CHANGED"

Tayyar's statement is as follows: "The cancellation of diplomas, the resolution process, the transfer of MPs, the new Constitution, and investigation files are all topics of discussion that deeply affect social and political dynamics.

At the center of all this tension are claims regarding the upcoming presidential election. Naturally, the political tension has increased significantly, and more energy has begun to accumulate in social fault lines. How can we get out of this predicament?

As an ordinary citizen, I have a personal suggestion. Since all discussions lead to the presidential election, changes to Article 101 of the Constitution, which regulates the conditions for candidacy, may be a solution. The 'higher education' requirement and the 'limit of being elected President twice' could be lifted.

"I THINK IT SHOULD BE TRIED"

If the AK Party and CHP can reach a consensus on this issue, politics may flow in its natural course, and social tension may begin to decrease, possibly. I think it should be tried."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched an investigation for "forgery in official documents" based on reports of the falsity of İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu's undergraduate diploma and findings in the report prepared by the Higher Education Council.

As part of the investigation, İmamoğlu's statement was taken on March 5.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in its initial letter sent to the Istanbul University Rectorship, pointed out that in the research report of the Higher Education Council (YÖK), only Eastern Mediterranean University was recognized among the higher education institutions operating in the TRNC during that period.

Considering the correspondence included in the report, it was stated that the recognition of foreign higher education institutions was a requirement in horizontal transfer processes, and therefore it was understood that the horizontal transfer processes of the University College of Northern Cyprus (UCNC), which does not have recognition, were not carried out in accordance with YÖK decisions by the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Business Administration at Istanbul University.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested the approved copies of all documents related to İBB President İmamoğlu's education at Istanbul University and asked for the identification of who and which individuals established the acceptance of horizontal transfers on September 12, 1990, along with their clear identity information.

In the letter, it was also requested that the response regarding whether similar horizontal transfer processes were carried out on the dates mentioned in the report be sent to the prosecutor's office urgently.
