The Nationalist Movement Party recently submitted a bill to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey regarding street interviews that have come to the agenda.

Ismail Özdemir, the Deputy Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) responsible for Media, Communication, and Digital Platforms, and a Kayseri MP, announced that his party has submitted a bill to the Turkish Grand National Assembly regarding street interviews.

"THIS ACTIVITY CANNOT BE EVALUATED WITHIN THE SCOPE OF PRESS FREEDOM"

In a statement regarding the bill, Özdemir shared on his social media account, "In recent years, some activities carried out under the name of 'street interviews' are actually organized with pre-prepared scenarios and setups.

The purpose of the content carried out in this context is not to obtain or disseminate accurate information; rather, it is to create unrest in society, to direct the public towards hatred and animosity, to disrupt public order, and to create disinformation. The types of these interviews, especially those conducted through social media, are carried out by individuals who are not affiliated with any press organization or do not possess a press card. However, press activity is subject to certain ethical rules, professional principles, and institutional oversight. It is not possible to evaluate such activities carried out by unauthorized individuals within the scope of press freedom," he stated.

"WE AIM TO CONTROL THESE ACTIVITIES"

Özdemir stated that they aim to bring street interviews under control with the proposal, saying, "With the bill we submitted to the Grand National Assembly, the aim is to bring these activities carried out under the name of street interviews under control, to ensure that they are conducted only by authorized individuals, and to impose penalties on those who act contrary to the rules. Our intention with the regulation is important in terms of preserving the reputation of the journalism profession, maintaining social peace, and preventing information pollution," he wrote.

ERDOĞAN: TERROR IS BEING SPREAD UNDER THE NAME OF STREET INTERVIEWS

President Erdoğan made a statement regarding street interviews the other day; Erdoğan said, "We live in a country where anyone who grabs a microphone and a camera sees themselves as a journalist and reporter. These individuals are practically spreading terror on the streets, especially under the name of street interviews," he stated.
