Following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in the war in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia announced that it would launch an international logistics corridor connecting the ports in the Gulf to Jordan and northern countries.

A written statement from the Saudi Arabian Railways Company announced that the country will launch an international logistics corridor connecting its ports opening to the Gulf with the Haditha Border Gate between Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

NEW AND RELIABLE ROUTES WILL SUPPORT REGIONAL TRADE

The statement indicated that the mentioned corridor will connect Saudi Arabian ports in the Gulf to both Jordan and other countries located to the north, emphasizing that this step will strengthen the direct connection to the regions north of Jordan and Saudi Arabia and support regional trade through a highly efficient land route.

It was noted that container transportation services will be provided via the railway network from the ports in eastern Saudi Arabia to the Haditha Border Gate, which will open direct routes to Jordan and northern regions, making export activities more efficient and reliable.

The statement mentioned that the international logistics corridor connecting the ports in the Gulf to Jordan will reduce the distance by half compared to other road options, exceeding 1700 kilometers, and that speed and efficiency will be increased with a capacity of over 400 containers per train.

The statement highlighted that the project will create a direct logistical impact by shortening travel times, contribute to the withdrawal of thousands of trucks from the roads, and positively reflect on the preservation of infrastructure quality and the enhancement of security levels.

THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ WAS CLOSED TO SHIP TRAFFIC

Following the war that began with the attacks of the US and Israel on Iran, Tehran announced that it had "controlled" the closure of ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that countries that are not parties to the attacks on Iran from the strait or do not support the attacks with their bases are allowed to pass.

The Strait of Hormuz, which is the export route for major oil producers such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE, is a transit point for approximately 20% of the world's oil transported by sea, with millions of barrels of oil exported daily.

According to data compiled by AA correspondent from the real-time ship tracking company MarineTraffic, there are approximately 1900 ships unable to move around the Strait of Hormuz as of March 20-22.

US-ISRAEL ATTACKS ON IRAN

While negotiations continue between Tehran and the Washington administration, Israel and the US launched a military attack on Iran on February 28.

Iran responded with attacks on targets it identified in some regional countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain, where US bases are located, in addition to Israel.

In the US-Israel attacks, former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, as well as many high-ranking officials, were killed.
