"Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin announced that teachers and students will be granted administrative leave on Friday, June 12, when education continues due to preparation for the LGS exam."

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin answered questions regarding the High School Transition System (LGS) exam, which will be held on Saturday with the participation of 1,022,658 candidates.

EXAM MOVED TO SATURDAY DUE TO WORLD CUP

Upon noting that the exam was moved to Saturday, June 13, due to the match of the Turkish National Football Team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Tekin stated, "We, our children, and parents all wanted to experience that excitement together with our National Team. When we announced the exam schedule, it was not yet certain whether Turkey would participate in the World Cup or what the match schedule would be. It was a coincidence. To allow our children to experience that excitement with peace of mind alongside their families, we moved the exam one day earlier. The exam that was supposed to be on Sunday will now be on Saturday. Hopefully, our National Team will achieve a good result, and our children will perform well in their exams. I wish them all success and ease. May Allah help them all."

SCHOOLS CLOSED ON FRIDAY, JUNE 12

Commenting on the closure of schools on Friday, June 12, Tekin said, "When the exam was on Sunday, we used to make certain preparations on Saturday in the schools where the exam was held. Now, to allow these preparations to be made the day before, we granted administrative leave for the day when education continues, Friday. Our students, teachers, and all institutions received one day of administrative leave. We will carry out preparations in the schools where the exam will be held. We thought that our students would rest that day, and our teacher colleagues and parents would be able to focus on their children."

NUTRITION PACKAGES TO BE PROVIDED TO STUDENTS

Minister Tekin stated that students whose parents requested it during the central exam application would receive a nutrition package containing dried fruit oat bars, walnuts, raisins, and water to meet their nutritional needs during the break between exam sessions, reduce exam anxiety, and increase motivation. "We announced in advance what would be in the nutrition package, in case some children might have allergies to these items or parents might not want their child to eat them. Based on the requests, we placed students who said 'I want it' in one classroom and those who said 'I don't want it' in another, to prevent anyone from seeing others and wanting it. Students who requested the nutrition package and those who did not will take the exam in different buildings or halls. However, almost all of them—91 percent—requested it. Therefore, 91 percent of students will receive a nutrition package for the first time this year," he explained.

Minister Tekin noted that, as before every exam, exam coordination committees, including officials from the Ministry of Interior, gendarmerie, and police, have met, preparations have been made, and measures have been reviewed once again.

1,022,658 CANDIDATES TO PARTICIPATE

The date of the LGS central exam, which was previously announced to be held on Sunday, June 14, was moved forward by one day because the end time of the match between the Turkish National Football Team and the Australian National Team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the same day coincided with the exam start time.

Accordingly, the central exam will be held on Saturday, June 13, at domestic and international exam centers. The exam consists of two sessions: the first session will start at 9:30 AM, and the second session at 11:30 AM.

The central exam will be conducted with the participation of 1,022,104 students in 4,244 buildings across 81 provinces and 920 districts domestically, and 554 students in 11 exam centers across 8 countries abroad, totaling 1,022,658 candidates.
