The stagnation in the second-hand car market continues. While geopolitical developments, sharp fluctuations in gold prices, the summer season, and new vehicle campaigns negatively impact second-hand sales, the authorization verification application through e-Government has reduced listing clutter. On the other hand, market representatives state that vehicles listed at the right price find buyers more quickly, yet the waiting period for second-hand cars exceeds 20 days.

The recent slowdown in the second-hand automobile market continues, and Automotive Expert Mehmet Karacabey evaluated the reasons behind the stagnation. Karacabey stated that geopolitical developments, sharp fluctuations in gold prices, the summer season, and zero-kilometer vehicle campaigns negatively affect the second-hand market.

WARS AND GOLD PRICES AFFECT THE MARKET

Referring to the reasons for the slowdown in the second-hand automobile market, Karacabey noted that global developments are also reflected in the Turkish market.

Karacabey said, "Especially the war in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine war affect us geopolitically. Additionally, those sharp movements in gold cause problems as customers buy gold at high prices but cannot sell it due to high volatility."

"ONLY REAL SELLERS REMAIN IN THE MARKET"

Also evaluating the regulations aimed at preventing listing clutter, Karacabey said the market has become healthier with the Ministry of Trade's authorization verification application via e-Government.

Karacabey stated, "Previously, anyone could list any vehicle, and there were too many listings. Now, with our Ministry of Trade's requirement to grant authorization via e-Government, the market has been cleaned up, and only real players and real sellers remain."

LISTING WITH THE RIGHT PRICE SELLS FASTER

Emphasizing that the most important reason for listings remaining unsold for long periods is incorrect pricing, Karacabey said setting a high price without considering factors like the vehicle's mileage and damage history extends the sales process.

Karacabey noted that vehicles listed at the right price find buyers more quickly, and added that the waiting period for second-hand vehicles now exceeds 20 days.

ZERO-KILOMETER VEHICLE CAMPAIGNS CHALLENGE THE SECOND-HAND MARKET

Karacabey stated that zero-kilometer vehicle campaigns also pressure the second-hand market, and said the price difference between new and second-hand vehicles has significantly narrowed.

Expressing that consumers are turning to new vehicles due to the narrowing price gap, Karacabey highlighted this as one of the key factors negatively affecting second-hand sales.
