As a result of an operation conducted by the Niğde Provincial Gendarmerie Command, 7 individuals were arrested while attempting to sell a historical mummy. An examination will be conducted in the area for excavation work related to the seized mummy.
Seven suspects were arrested while attempting to sell a mummy as part of the efforts carried out by the Niğde Provincial Gendarmerie Command in the fight against cultural and natural heritage smuggling.
Gendarmerie teams identified and captured individuals trying to sell the historical mummy in the town of Kemerhisar, connected to the Bor district of Nevşehir. During the operation, a mummy, believed to date back to the Middle Ages, was seized from the residence of an individual named H.G.
6 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED
After their statements were taken, the suspects H.O., H.G., İ.E., K.A., M.A., R.E., and Ş.K. were sent to the Bor Courthouse, where they were arrested by the court and sent to prison.
EXCAVATION WORK WILL BE CARRIED OUT
In a statement made by the Niğde Governorship, it was expressed that excavation work would be carried out in the area determined based on the suspects' statements, under the supervision of officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, accompanied by the gendarmerie.
The statement included, "As part of our determined struggle to protect our country's cultural heritage, we thank our gendarmerie organization for their dedicated efforts and our judiciary organization for their meticulous work during the legal phases of the process. We once again emphasize our sensitivity and determination regarding the protection of our cultural heritage."
