In the case regarding the death of barber İsa Turgut, who was found in his cabin with a blow to the head from an axe, defendants Yiğit C.B. and Nazir B. appeared before the judge. One of the defendants, while defending himself, stated, "When I looked, İsa's hand was on my cousin. My cousin was in tears. He was signaling me to come with his hand. So, I hit İsa on the head with the axe that was there."
In the Kartepe district of Kocaeli, the defendants appeared before the judge in the case regarding the murder of a barber in a cabin in a wooded area with an axe and a shovel. An autopsy revealed 24 wounds on the victim's body, while one of the defendants claimed that he committed the act out of anger and fear after his cousin was abused.
The incident occurred on January 19, 2025, in a cabin located in the forested area of the Okçapınar neighborhood of Suadiye. The barber, İsa Turgut (35), was found by a relative in his cabin with an axe wound to his head and was taken to a private hospital. Despite all interventions, Turgut could not be saved. The Kocaeli Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams launched an investigation into the murder. In a joint operation with the Kocaeli Police Department, Yiğit C.B. (18) and Nazir B. (18) were detained. After their procedures were completed, the suspects were sent to court and arrested. The autopsy revealed a total of 24 wounds on the victim's body, which were assessed to have been caused by cutting and crushing tools.
"I WAS SLEEPING IN PLACES LIKE A MOSQUE OR A GAS STATION"
The trial for the charges of "intentional murder" and "theft by taking advantage of a person's inability to protect their property" was held at the Kocaeli 3rd High Criminal Court. The hearing was attended by the detained defendants and the lawyers of the parties. Yiğit C.B., the detained defendant who was given the right to speak for his defense, stated that he came to Kocaeli from Hatay to work six months before the incident. He explained that he worked as a waiter in restaurants for a while and then returned to Hatay, saying, "When I came back to Kocaeli, I was sleeping in places like a mosque or a gas station. I was working in a restaurant in Sapanca. My cousin Nazir B., came to Kocaeli to work on January 8, 2025. During this period, I was fired."
"HE SAID LET'S SLEEP, HE CALLED MY COUSIN NEXT TO HIM"
Yiğit C.B. stated that he and his cousin Nazir B. stayed in mosques and prayer rooms because they had no place to stay, and he explained that they met İsa Turgut through a mutual friend during this time. He expressed that barber Turgut occasionally shaved them and did not charge them for it, saying, "We told him that we had no place to stay and that we needed to find a job. İsa told us that we could stay in his mountain house and that he could make arrangements for work on Monday. The next day, we went to the mountain house together. We repaired the ventilated parts of the cabin together and organized the surroundings. Then, because we were tired, he said, 'Let's sleep.' He called my cousin next to him. They slept in the bed, and I slept on the couch."
"I LOST CONTROL, I CONTINUED TO HIT WITH THE AXE"
Yiğit C.B. stated that he heard a sound after a while and made the following claims in his defense:
"When I looked, İsa's hand was wandering over my cousin. My cousin was in tears. He was signaling me to come with his hand. I hit İsa on the head with the axe that was there. After that, the person got up. He grabbed me and the axe. Upon this, my cousin intervened with a pickaxe. My cousin only hit once. I lost control and continued to hit. We didn't know what to do; since it was a mountainous area, my cousin took the motorcycle key and 100 TL, and then we left. In the end, we surrendered; I regret it."
Nazir B. stated that he repeated his statements made during the investigation phase. The court panel decided to continue the detention of the defendants and adjourned the hearing.
