Hüseyin Oğuz, who visited his daughter Melike Oğuz's grave every day for three years after losing her in a traffic accident in Antalya and became known for his fight against flower thieves, passed away due to lung cancer he was diagnosed with one month ago. As the grieving father was buried next to his beloved daughter, his aunt's words at the graveside moved those attending the funeral to tears.
In the Serik district of Antalya, Melike Oğuz, a 16-year-old 12th grade student at Atatürk Anatolian High School, was seriously injured in a traffic accident at the Belek Road Bus Station Junction on October 25, 2023. The young girl, who was hit by a bus while going to school on her father Hüseyin Oğuz's motorcycle, died after a 7-day struggle for life in the hospital where she was treated.
Hüseyin Oğuz, who experienced deep grief after his daughter's death, never left her grave at Gedik Cemetery alone from that day on. Going to the cemetery every day to water the flowers at his daughter's grave, care for it, and clean it, Oğuz earned the appreciation of those around him.
HE HAD INSTALLED A CAMERA AGAINST FLOWER THIEVES
Deeply saddened by the constant theft of the flowers he planted on his daughter's grave, Hüseyin Oğuz obtained permission from the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Cemetery Directorate and installed a security camera system overlooking the grave. Reviewing the camera recordings on December 3, 2025, Oğuz identified two people, one of them a woman, stealing flowers from graves and filed a complaint against them. His struggle to protect his daughter's memory also resonated widely with the public.
HE DIED FROM LUNG CANCER DIAGNOSED 1 MONTH AGO
It was reported that Hüseyin Oğuz learned he had lung cancer about 1 month ago. Living with longing for his daughter, Hüseyin Oğuz was rushed to Serik State Hospital after falling ill. However, despite all interventions by doctors, Oğuz could not be saved and died.
THE AUNT'S WORDS BROKE HEARTS
Before the burial, the words of Melike Oğuz's aunt, who came to her niece's grave, broke hearts. Praying, the aunt said, "You will join your father, my child, you loved him so much. We have not forgotten you, my child, and we will not forget your father either."
