'THE TRIGGER GOT STUCK IN MY HAND' The first hearing of the case was held today. The detained defendant, Doğancan Yavuz, his mother Güner Yavuz, and the parties' lawyers attended the hearing. Testifying at the hearing, Doğancan Yavuz said, crying, 'I have been fighting with my father for years. He throws me and my mother out of the house. I took my mother to my relatives many times. My mother became partially paralyzed and suffered a blood clot because of my father's psychological violence. We argued one night before the incident; he questioned me about where I had come from. He cursed at me; he was already drunk. I slept, morning came, and I wanted to go to work; I had no desire to work. I went to my supervisor and asked for leave. I drove my car to the health center and got a health report. I could not go home to rest because my father would get angry. So I said I would have my car serviced. I waited until evening to go home. I am very afraid of my father, so I waited until 5 o'clock so that my father would not understand that I had not gone to work. I went home; my father said, 'What happened to the car's trims?' and cursed. I went upstairs; we lit the stove. My father came too. My mother asked me for help. My father said about my mother, 'Leave her, let her do it herself.' I said, 'Why are you bothering us?' He said, 'It won't be long; either you will leave or I will,' and cursed. He went to the old television and looked for a cutting tool, then went to the kitchen and took a knife. I went to my room and took my licensed gun. My father advanced on my mother with the knife. When I said 'Stop,' he advanced on me; I pushed him. He came at me; I fired. When he came again, I fired 1 more shot. Then the trigger got stuck in my hand. He was an ill-tempered man. I would not have wanted these events to reach this stage. Everyone is a witness to the events; I sheltered my mother many times in my relatives' homes.'
'I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT MY SON' Mother Güner Yavuz, on the other hand, used the statements: 'My husband subjected me to violence and cursed. We have been married for a long time. He drank too much alcohol. He made me ill. I used to be a completely healthy person. His habits were very bad. I took refuge with my siblings. I went many times. He subjected me to violence. Sometimes he hit me. They were always arguing with my son. They argued for no reason. My husband came walking with a knife and said, 'I will kill you.' My husband had a knife in his hand; I am not complaining about my son, he was taking care of me.' The court panel, after hearing all 7 witnesses, requested a report from the Forensic Medicine 4th Specialization Board to investigate the finding as to whether the defendant committed the incident in a state of insanity, and adjourned the hearing.
