STATEMENT FROM YERLİKAYA AND GOVERNOR USTAOĞLU

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that field scans have begun, saying, "After the earthquake felt in surrounding provinces, all teams of AFAD and our relevant institutions have immediately started their work in the field. Developments are being closely monitored."

Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu also informed the public with the words, "As of now, there is no negative situation. I extend my best wishes to the citizens affected by the earthquake."

"THERE ARE 2 UNNATURAL SITUATIONS"

Geologist Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz, in his assessment on NTV, stated, "There are two unnatural situations here: the continuous aftershocks for 15 days and their spread over a very wide area. This indicates a situation related to the underground structure of the region."

Tüysüz noted that there is no expectation of a major earthquake in the region, stating, "It is not expected that the fault will produce a larger earthquake after the 6.1 magnitude earthquake. There is no need to panic. However, I advise against entering damaged houses. Aftershocks seem to last for a long time."

IT HAD SHAKEN WITH A MAGNITUDE OF 6.1

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in Sındırgı on August 10. Since that day, aftershocks have been ongoing in the region.
