The Spanish Ministry of Defense has suspended the contract worth 287.5 million euros for the supply of "Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles and launchers" signed with the Israeli company Rafael's subsidiary in Spain, Pap-Tecnos.

287.5 MILLION EURO CONTRACT SUSPENDED
According to reports in the Spanish media, the Ministry of Defense has suspended the contract worth 287.5 million euros for the supply of 168 missile launchers and 1,680 Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles, which it had previously signed with the Israeli company "Rafael Advanced Defense Systems" through its Spanish subsidiary Pap-Tecnos.
PLANS FOR WITHDRAWAL ARE BEING WORKED ON
Amparo Valcarce, the Secretary of State for Defense, stated last Friday that the government is working on withdrawal plans to avoid any dependence on the Israeli military industry.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Spanish government had signed a contract worth 287.5 million euros with the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems' Spanish subsidiary Pap-Tecnos for the production of 168 missile launchers and 1,680 Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles to be used in the Army and Marine Corps. The contract was approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers on October 3, 2023, just four days before Israel launched its attacks on Gaza on October 7, 2023. This was one of three major contracts Spain had with the Israeli military industry.
