Spain's Zinkia Entertainment, which produces animated movies for television, has filed a lawsuit against Düşyeri Yapım, the producer of Turkey's famous, domestically produced cartoon series, "Pepee," on the grounds of unfair competition and copyright infringement.
Zinkia Entertainment owns the popular TV series, "Pocoyo," which has been aired in 150 countries around the world. The company focuses on projects to educate and entertain children with the content of its TV series. It is the sole license owner for selling the Pocoyo brand. Pocoyo, both the name of the series and its main character, is the story of a little kid who is discovering the world around him.
Düşyeri Yapım, established in 2008 in İstanbul, made a name for itself with its first TV series "Pepee," which is also the name of the main character in the show. Pepee, who looks similar to Pocoyo, quickly became famous in Turkey and is known as the first national cartoon hero of the country. The show is one preferred by parents for both entertaining and educating their children.
