Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between Turkey and Canada have officially begun. In a statement issued regarding the negotiations, it was said, 'Closer economic cooperation will support economic growth, contribute to job creation, enhance competitiveness, strengthen supply chains, and help our businesses succeed in an increasingly dynamic global economy.'
A joint statement was issued regarding the launch of free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations between Turkey and Canada.
FREE TRADE STEP BETWEEN TURKEY AND CANADA
In the statement shared by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, the following expressions were included: "Leaders are pleased to announce that Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between Turkey and Canada have been officially launched, on the occasion of the meeting held on July 7, 2026, between our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the margins of the NATO Summit held in our country."
The statement recalled that Trade Minister Ömer Bolat and Canadian Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu issued a Joint Ministerial Statement on Economic Partnership at the beginning of June, announcing the start of exploratory talks towards a comprehensive FTA. It was emphasized that the said announcement reflects the mutual will to further deepen the economic partnership between Turkey and Canada and the mutual confirmation of the significant potential in this area, and the statement recorded the following:

"Turkey and Canada are taking the next step in this process by officially announcing the launch of negotiations for a comprehensive, modern Free Trade Agreement that will benefit both parties. Closer economic cooperation will support economic growth, contribute to job creation, enhance competitiveness, strengthen supply chains, and help our businesses achieve success in an increasingly dynamic global economy.
Technical teams from both countries will carry out the necessary technical work in the coming months to determine the scope and objectives of the agreement and to prepare for the first round of negotiations. Both governments look forward to working together to achieve a high-quality agreement that will strengthen the Turkey-Canada partnership and create new prosperity opportunities for businesses, workers, and people in both countries."
