A woman who was messaging before a first date canceled the dinner plan instantly upon learning that the man she was to meet had no car and suggested commuting by metro. Her messages, saying 'If you don't have a car, why are you planning a meal?' and calling off the date, were met with a storm of backlash on social media.

A screenshot of a messaging conversation shared on social media has reopened the debate on material expectations in relationships. When a woman learned that the man she was about to meet did not have a car and suggested taking the metro, she canceled the dinner plans outright.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU WON'T PICK ME UP?"

According to the messaging screenshots that quickly spread online, a conversation about the venue and transportation began between two people planning an evening dinner. The woman, surprised by the man's message saying "We'll meet there, we'll just take the metro directly, won't get stuck in traffic," replied, "What do you mean, you won't pick me up? I'll send my location."

"IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CAR, WHY ARE YOU PLANNING DINNER?"

In response, the man offered, "If you want, I can come pick you up, but I don't have a car; I'll come get you and we'll go together." The woman gave a harsh and dismissive reply: "If you don't have a car, why are you planning dinner then? No need for dinner."

THE MAN WHO REACTED ENDED THE MEETING

Annoyed that the other party canceled dinner simply because he didn't own a car, the man responded, "Does my mouth and stomach not work without a car? Find a car for yourself, go to dinner by car then," and ended the communication.

SPARKED DEBATES

After the image was shared on social media, users were split in two. While one group harshly criticized the woman's approach as extremely "self-serving and superficial," another group argued that a man should have the courtesy to pick up a woman from her home on a first date.

Here is the dialogue between the two;
