YENİ Party Erzincan MP Mustafa Sarıgül broke his silence regarding the ongoing investigation after his son Ömer Sarıgül and his ex-wife Aylin Kotil were sent to prison. Sarıgül, who argued that the allegations were put forward through fake receipts and documents, claimed that a receipt for 100 Euros was changed to 100 million Euros. Sarıgül also reacted to the arrest of journalist Murat Ağırel, describing what happened as “a huge injustice.”

In a statement regarding the investigation launched against him, Erzincan MP Mustafa Sarıgül argued that the allegations were built on fake bank receipts and documents. Making another statement after the arrest of his son Ömer Sarıgül and his ex-wife Aylin Kotil, Sarıgül stated that he was saddened by the arrest of journalist Murat Ağırel and described what happened as “a very great injustice.”

“A €100 RECEIPT WAS SHOWN AS €100 MILLION”

Stating that he has been in politics for nearly 50 years, Sarıgül said that he assumed various roles during his periods of paid employment, civil service, trade, mayoralty and membership of parliament. Saying that he was audited during his commercial activities and public duties, Sarıgül claimed that there had previously been no investigation against him.

Sarıgül, who stated that he submitted an asset declaration as an MP after the 2023 elections, argued that he had no money that he could not account for.

Also addressing the allegations forming the basis of the investigation, Sarıgül asserted that the documents were fake and said, “a €100 receipt was changed to €100 million.” Arguing that the companies alleged to have been established were in fact not established, Sarıgül claimed that there was no money entering or leaving Turkey.

“WE DID NOT BOW TO BLACKMAIL”

Sarıgül stated that the contacts between him and his family members and the individuals in question were ended before becoming official. Arguing that there was no public loss or loss suffered by the claimants, Sarıgül claimed that fake documents were sent to him and his family members via email and WhatsApp, but that they did not bow to these attempts.

According to Sarıgül’s statement, the claimants later contacted journalist Murat Ağırel in order to create public pressure. Stating that Ağırel doubted the allegations and documents sent to him and tried to verify them, Sarıgül said that these individuals then filed complaints against him, his family members and Ağırel.

HE SAID HE WAS SADDENED BY MURAT AĞIREL'S ARREST

Mustafa Sarıgül argued that the claims that Murat Ağırel informed them and protected them did not reflect the truth. Stating that Ağırel did not report on the matter because he could not obtain sufficient information and documents, Sarıgül expressed that he felt great sadness over the journalist’s inclusion in the investigation and his arrest.

At the end of his statement, Sarıgül stated that they would maintain their belief in democracy, justice and the rule of law, and said, “Democracy will win, justice will win, all of Turkey will win.”
