The Ministry of Trade announced that for customs procedures regarding awards won abroad, the document proving that the item was won in an international competition must be submitted to the operator courier company or the relevant postal authority for presentation to the customs administration.
In a statement from the Ministry, it was stated that customs procedures for awards, trophies, medals, and similar items sent from abroad in the name of citizens who have achieved success by representing Turkey in international competitions are carried out using simplified procedures under relevant legislation. The statement, referencing the provisions of the Customs Law on this matter, noted that customs exemption is applied for awards, trophies, medals, and similar items that are primarily symbolic in nature, given to individuals residing in the Turkish Customs Territory in appreciation of their activities in any field from foreign countries.
CAN BE SENT TO TURKEY VIA COURIER SHIPPING
The statement expressed that awards, trophies, medals, and similar items won in competitions abroad within this scope can be sent to Turkey via postal or courier shipping.
Providing information on the submission of documents, customs procedures, and delivery processes, the statement recorded the following: "The recipient must submit the documents and paperwork showing that the item was won in an international competition to the operator courier company or the relevant postal authority for presentation to the customs administration. If the shipment is deemed to be symbolic and for non-commercial purposes, the item is processed under the exemption. For shipments arriving via postal or courier services, customs declarations, processing procedures, and delivery operations are carried out by the operator courier company or postal authority. Provided that the conditions specified in the legislation are met, customs duties are not sought upon the item's entry into free circulation, and the item is delivered to the recipient. As the Ministry, we will continue to stand by our citizens who make our country proud on international platforms and to conduct all processes within the framework of legislation with a fast, transparent, and facilitative approach."
