The Presidency of Migration Management of the Ministry of Interior reported that allegations regarding Syrians under temporary protection who voluntarily returned from Turkey to Syria do not reflect the truth. In a statement from the Presidency, it was stated, 'The total number of voluntary returnees from 2016 to date is 1 million 440 thousand 123, and the number of those who have voluntarily, safely, honorably, and orderly returned since December 8, 2024, is 700 thousand 120.'
The Turkish Ministry of Interior's Directorate General of Migration Management has stated that claims regarding Syrians under temporary protection who voluntarily returned to Syria from Turkey do not reflect the truth.
“2 MILLION 255 THOUSAND 317 SYRIANS UNDER TEMPORARY PROTECTION”
In a statement from the Directorate, it was noted that claims regarding the return of Syrians under temporary protection to their country are unfounded, and it has become necessary to inform the public correctly.
It was stated that the figure announced by Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi represents the total number of Syrians who have voluntarily returned to Syria from 2016 to the present.
It was conveyed that the number shared by Turkey's Ambassador to Damascus, Nuh Yılmaz, pertains only to those who have voluntarily, safely, honorably, and regularly returned since December 8, 2024.
In the statement, it was emphasized that the Directorate General of Migration Management transparently shares weekly data regarding Syrians under temporary protection in Turkey on its official website. According to current records, the number of Syrians under temporary protection in the country is 2 million 255 thousand 317.
“THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VOLUNTARY RETURNS REACHED 1 MILLION 440 THOUSAND 123”
The statement noted: "The total number of those who have voluntarily returned since 2016 is 1 million 440 thousand 123, and the number of those who have returned voluntarily, safely, honorably, and regularly since December 8, 2024, is 700 thousand 120. The public is kindly requested not to give credence to such unfounded claims that do not align with official data and target our institutions. The voluntary, safe, honorable, and regular return processes of Syrians are carried out with state seriousness and within the framework of international law. These returns are conducted under the supervision of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees."
