After approximately 4 months of detention within the scope of a "drug investigation," presenter Ela Rümeysa Cebeci, who was released under house arrest, made a striking post on her social media account titled "Those I couldn't keep inside." Cebeci shared her reflections on the time she spent in prison, stating, "A person is most tested by themselves."
Presenter Ela Rümeysa Cebeci, released under house arrest, described the impact of her prison experience in a lengthy post on her social media account.
"THE REAL TEST IS NOT SURRENDERING YOUR MORALS TO CIRCUMSTANCES"
In her post titled "Those I couldn't keep inside," Cebeci expressed that the real test is not losing freedom but preserving one's character.
"Before going inside, I thought the biggest test was losing my freedom. I was wrong. The real test is not surrendering your morals to circumstances," said Cebeci, emphasizing that a person's greatest struggle is with their own ego.
"THE EGO PULLS A PERSON AWAY MILLIMETER BY MILLIMETER"
In her post, Cebeci also touched on the topics she thought about most in prison, using the following statements:
"Inside, I thought about this the most: The ego doesn't defeat a person all at once. First, it makes you question your truths. Then, it tries to bend your principles. It finds a reasonable excuse for every compromise. It pulls a person away from their values millimeter by millimeter. First, it asks for a small compromise. Then another one. Because character erodes not with big decisions, but with small compromises."
Cebeci also noted that the process led her to confront herself, saying, "I faced my own mistakes. I faced my shortcomings. I faced my ego."
INVESTIGATION PROCESS
Ela Rümeysa Cebeci was taken into custody in December 2025 within the scope of a drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and was arrested by the court she was brought before.
As part of the investigation, actions were also taken against Habertürk TV General Director Mehmet Akif Ersoy and some channel employees, with some suspects arrested and others released under judicial supervision.
During the investigation, Cebeci's additional statement was also taken, after which she was sent back to prison. Cebeci was released with a house arrest measure in April 2026.
