In SONAR Research's latest election poll, the AK Party ranked first with 29.7 percent, and the New Party ranked second with 28.2 percent. While the total of four groups, including undecideds and those who said they would not vote, reached 33.1 percent, SONAR President Hakan Bayrakçı said, "I have been conducting political research for 38 years; I have never seen anything like this in my life." Bayrakçı stated that because of this picture, predicting the election results has become almost impossible.
The results of SONAR Research's latest political trend survey were shared on Sözcü TV's Main News bulletin. In the survey, alongside the political parties' vote shares, voters' turnout tendencies and their attitudes toward disclosing their political preferences were also evaluated. After the undecided voters and other response groups were distributed proportionally, the AKP ranked first with 29.7 percent, while the New Party came second with 28.2 percent. The difference between the two parties was calculated as 1.5 points.
TABLE BEFORE UNDECIDED VOTERS WERE DISTRIBUTED
In the survey results before undecided voters and other response groups were distributed, the AKP's vote share was measured at 19.8 percent and the New Party's vote share at 18.8 percent. The Good Party received 7.3 percent, the DEM Party 6.0 percent, the MHP 3.3 percent, the CHP and the Key Party 2.1 percent, the Victory Party 2.0 percent, the New Welfare Party 1.5 percent, the Grand Unity Party and the Workers' Party of Türkiye 0.9 percent, and other parties 2.2 percent support.
TOTAL OF FOUR RESPONSE GROUPS REACHED 33.1 PERCENT
One of the most striking results of the survey was the proportion of voters who did not disclose their political preference or stated that they would not vote. In the survey, the rate of those who said they were undecided was measured at 11.9 percent, and the rate of those who said they would not go to the polls at 10.5 percent. The rate of those with no opinion or answer was 6.9 percent, while the rate of those who said they would cast an invalid vote was 3.8 percent. Thus, the total of the four response groups reached 33.1 percent.
HAKAN BAYRAKÇI: I HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN 38 YEARS
SONAR President Hakan Bayrakçı made notable assessments regarding the picture that emerged in the analysis section of the survey. Bayrakçı stated that he had encountered such a high rate of nonresponse and indecision in political research for the first time and used the following statements:
“I have been conducting political research for 38 years. In my life, I have never seen such a high percentage of people in the field not wanting to answer questions, not expressing an opinion, or saying ‘I am undecided,’ ‘I will not go to the polls,’ or ‘I would protest.’ I am encountering such a thing for the first time. With these data, it has become almost impossible to predict what kind of result will emerge at the ballot box when an election is held.”
In the broadcast, it was also assessed that the rate in question was not caused solely by political indecision, and that concern among some citizens about the possible consequences they might face if they disclosed their political views could also be effective.
UNDECIDED VOTERS WERE DISTRIBUTED, THE GAP BETWEEN THE TWO PARTIES BECAME 1.5 POINTS
After the 33.1 percent response group was distributed proportionally, the AKP took the top two positions with 29.7 percent and the New Party with 28.2 percent. The Good Party was in third place with 10.9 percent and the DEM Party in fourth place with 9.0 percent, while the MHP's vote share was calculated as 4.9 percent.
In the post-distribution results, the Victory Party and the Key Party were measured at 3.1 percent, the CHP at 3.0 percent, the New Welfare Party at 2.2 percent, the Grand Unity Party and the Workers' Party of Türkiye at 1.3 percent, and other parties at 3.3 percent.
