MINISTER FIDAN AT NATO SUMMIT IN BELGIUM

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who attended the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, answered questions from Turkish journalists. Speaking about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Minister Fidan issued an important warning regarding the attacks on ships in the Black Sea.

In response to a question about the meeting held with the foreign ministers of Romania and Bulgaria following the attacks on commercial ships in Turkey's exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea, Fidan stated that Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey have established a working group to eliminate the arrival of mines from the war floating to the shores.

"THE GEOGRAPHY OF WAR IS INCREASINGLY EXPANDING, THIS IS VERY FRIGHTENING"

Sharing information that the naval forces have started working on this issue, Minister Fidan said, "Especially the recent attacks in the Black Sea have shown how justified our warnings as Turkey have been from the very beginning. Because the geography of war is increasingly expanding. This is a very frightening thing."

"ATTACKS ON SHIPS ENDANGER NAVIGATION SAFETY IN THE BLACK SEA"

Minister Fidan pointed out that the attacks on these two ships navigating in Turkey's exclusive economic zone not only endanger navigation safety in the Black Sea but also turn the Black Sea into an area closed to trade and human transportation.

Stating that Turkey has opportunities to open to international warm waters like the Aegean and Mediterranean, but countries like Romania and Bulgaria have their only access to the sea through the Black Sea, Fidan said, "This issue is a bigger problem for them. But as the country with the longest coastline on the Black Sea, we also had a great responsibility to take. We are doing our part in this regard."

"ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES ARE AT RISK UNDER WAR CONDITIONS"

Minister Fidan conveyed that there are important issues in the Black Sea, such as navigation safety, pipelines, energy lines, fiber lines, exploration activities for energy, and fishing, stating, "But when you are affected under war conditions, you cannot take advantage of this economic opportunity. On the contrary, it is at risk."

Fidan added that various topics were discussed at the meeting, such as what kind of measures could be developed, which institutions these measures would be coordinated with, and that work would continue on various issues where decisions were made.
