The effort of farmer Ramazan Doğru, who transported water with a tanker on a rim with a flat tire during the forest fire between the Orhaneli and Harmancık districts of Bursa, earned everyone's admiration. The 64-year-old Doğru, who lives in the rural Basak neighborhood of Keles district, told AA reporter that he supported firefighting efforts to prevent the greenery in the area where he was born and raised from disappearing.
HE DONATED 2 OUT OF 3 TANKERS GIVEN TO HIM TO THE VILLAGE
Doğru stated that after the moments of continuing on the road with a flat tire were viewed on social media, he was gifted 3 tankers, saying, "Mr. Ünal Turan from Istanbul, Şen Römork from Balıkesir, and our General Director of Forestry, Bekir Karacabey. I donated 2 of them to the village for use in the fire, and 1 remained with me." he said.
Expressing that one of the tankers he donated to the muhtarlık (village head) was fully equipped and the other was for water transportation, Doğru stated that he handed over the keys to the muhtar.
"HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WANT TO SEND MONEY, I DO NOT ACCEPT"
Doğru conveyed that the tankers, except for the one gifted by the General Directorate of Forestry, were brought to the neighborhood without his knowledge, saying, "If they had informed me, I would not have accepted. God bless them. May God be pleased with them, not once, but a thousand times. Hundreds of people are calling, saying, 'I want to send money.' They are asking for an IBAN. I absolutely do not accept. I did this not for money, but from the heart." he expressed.
Doğru, who stated that he would do the same thing again if given the chance, continued his words as follows:
"If it happens again, I would do it again. I don't care if the tractor goes. Because I can replace that tractor, but a tree, an ant, an insect, a bird there will not come back. They burned, they screamed. My heart ached. After the tire burst that day, I found a spare tire and put it on my tractor. I went around from the back of the fire, from the neighborhoods of Karagözler and Bayramlar. I watched the fire from a distance. I heard the screams of those animals there, and I couldn't sleep that night. If it happens today or tomorrow, may God not allow it again, but I would go again."
HE WANTS A WATERING POND
Doğru emphasized that they organized to support firefighting efforts as a neighborhood, saying, "During the day, people my age from the neighborhood were bringing water. It was reaching up to about 30, 40, 50, sometimes 100 tankers. At night, we were calling our children from Bursa. We were handing it over to them. My cousin was bringing the minibus, and after the night work was done, he would take it. In the morning, our children would go to their jobs. May God not disrupt our unity and solidarity. Everyone should be in unity and solidarity." he said.
Requesting a watering pond, Doğru stated, "We fill one tanker in 35 minutes. If there were a pond, we could fill 40 tankers at once. By the time the fire department arrives from Bursa, we would extinguish that fire. With this solidarity, this strength, this determination, we can do it." he said.
