An Air France plane traveling from Paris, France to Detroit, USA made an emergency landing in Montreal, Canada due to a suspected Ebola virus case. It was reported that US authorities did not allow the plane to land in Detroit due to concerns that a passenger on board might have been exposed to the deadly virus.
"THE PASSENGER SHOULD NOT HAVE BOARDED"
The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stated that the passenger had recently traveled to East Africa and was mistakenly allowed on the plane despite new travel restrictions imposed due to the Ebola outbreak.
Officials announced that the plane was prevented from landing at Detroit Metropolitan Airport for security reasons and was diverted to Montreal.
CABIN CREW WORE MASKS
After the plane landed in Montreal, the passenger was removed from the aircraft, and the flight then continued to Detroit. Air France confirmed that a Congolese passenger was denied entry to the US. According to reports in the foreign press, the cabin crew quickly put on masks after becoming aware of the situation.
WHO DECLARED A "GLOBAL EMERGENCY"
It was reported that the US Department of Homeland Security imposed a 30-day travel ban on passengers from the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak a "public health emergency of international concern." According to WHO data, there are 51 confirmed cases in Congo and 2 in Uganda. So far, 139 suspected deaths and approximately 600 suspected cases have been identified in the outbreak.
