The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that Syria has been officially removed from the list of "state sponsors of terrorism," on which it had been since 1979. In a statement from the Department of State, it said, "We welcome the decision to remove Syria from the U.S. list of State Sponsors of Terrorism."

In a written statement by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, it was stated that, in line with President Donald Trump's policy on Syria, the country was officially removed from the list of "state sponsors of terrorism."

The statement also announced that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) was removed from the status of "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" (SDGT). In this context, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), affiliated with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, also removed HTS from the List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons. The U.S. administration had declared its intention to remove Syria from the said list in a notification to Congress in July.

The U.S. added Syria to the list of "state sponsors of terrorism" in 1979. Iran, Cuba, and North Korea currently remain on that list.

FIRST REACTION FROM AL-SHARA TO THE DECISION

Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara said that after the U.S. removed Syria from the list of "state sponsors of terrorism," where it had been since 1979, the country has entered a process of development and reconstruction.

In a statement on his social media platform account, Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara said that Syria has emerged from its painful past and embarked on the path of development, renovation, and reconstruction.

Noting that the Syrian people have once again achieved a significant success with the lifting of sanctions and the end of restrictions, al-Shara said, "I pray to Almighty God to grant us strength in serving you."

Al-Shara conveyed his thanks to U.S. President Donald Trump and to all friendly and supporting countries that have stood by Syria and supported his country.

TÜRKİYE: WE WELCOME IT WITH PLEASURE

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that the U.S. decision to remove Syria from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism was welcomed with pleasure.

The statement included the following expressions:

"We appreciate the constructive approach of the U.S. Administration, which has demonstrated its will in this direction, and the U.S. Congress, which has supported the process; we congratulate the Syrian Government and its people for their determined stance.

With this important step, which our country has long supported, one of the biggest obstacles to Syria's economic recovery and reconstruction has been overcome.

We believe that this decision will accelerate efforts to strengthen Syria's ties with the international community and to establish lasting security and stability in the country.

During this period, we call on the international community to unite its efforts towards the goal of a prosperous Syria and to fulfill its responsibilities to end aggressive actions that endanger this vision."
