Tensions rose during the budget discussions in the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Planning and Budget Commission. CHP member Mahmut Tanal stated, "You are supplying electricity to Syria while Şanlıurfa and Adıyaman are in darkness." In response, AK Party member Resul Kurt said, "If you had paid your electricity bill, yours wouldn't have been cut off either." Following this, Tanal reacted by asking, "Are you calling the people thieves?" After the escalating tension, a 20-minute break was called in the commission.
The TBMM Planning and Budget Commission convened under the chairmanship of Samsun Deputy Mehmet Muş for the 2026 budget and final account discussions of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
PROTESTED THE POWER OUTAGES IN ŞANLIURFA
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar continued his presentation with the words, "This year, the electricity we obtain from wind and solar energy will meet approximately 75% of our industrial consumption," prompting a reaction from CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal, who said, "You are supplying electricity to Syria, while Şanlıurfa is in darkness," expressing his discontent over the power outages in Şanlıurfa.
"IF YOU HAD PAID YOUR DEBT, YOURS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN CUT OFF"
Responding to Tanal, who said, "There is no electricity in the villages of Adıyaman," AK Party Adıyaman Deputy Resul Kurt stated, "If you had paid your electricity bill, yours wouldn't have been cut off." In response, Tanal reacted by saying, "Are you calling the public thieves?" As tensions rose in the hall, Planning and Budget Commission Chairman Mehmet Muş announced a 20-minute break in the commission meeting.
"TODAY, INSTEAD OF A PRICE INCREASE, ANNOUNCE A DISCOUNT, PUT ON YOUR SHOW"
CHP Balıkesir Deputy Serkan Sarı stated, "The public is left without electricity. Electricity, gas, and natural gas are broken. Increases upon increases. Isn't it a shame for these people? The Minister should come out and make a statement. Give us good news. Instead of announcing a price increase today, announce a discount. Put on your show. Make a discount for the show, and we will applaud. Citizens do not feel the discount in their pockets. Just today, a price increase was announced. Do you know the situation of citizens who cannot pay their electricity bills? Do you see the bills coming to workplaces? Your duty is to provide welfare to the citizens. After every good news, there is a price increase," he said.
MEHMET MUŞ: YOU ARE NOT THE OWNER OF THIS PLACE
Planning and Budget Commission Chairman Mehmet Muş responded to Tanal after the break, saying, "Go and explain your point at the press conference. There is no such procedure. You are not the owner of this place."
